I saw them open for dinosaur JR. the drummer chick had on no bra if I remember right. The guitar player had this little amp he's make feedback with and throw around. They were fun to watch

i really don't think you can say one is better than the other, maybe to you because you prefer some of the features on one of the models that just suits you better but it kinda bothers me people always tend to op for jazz basses just because 'they feel more easy in the hands', kinda silly

tho i can say i've never had a jazz bass around my neck that made me feel like 'yeah, this thing's alright', i've always hated the sound and feel to be honest.

Sorry but the Jazz Bass is where it's at. The Pbass has its place, definitely, but it's essentially a one trick pony.

isn't the p-bass basically the first bass guitar? before that people just played upright bass? if it wasn't the first, it was the first to popularize the idea. It's one of those instruments that changed music history.

I've always been a fan of P-Basses. I currently have an Ibanez Roadstar II, and it's amazing.

J-Basses, though. I dig them completely, as well.

I've always found Musicmaster's to be way too quiet. Probably the fact that the pickup in most vintage ones were what looked like a guitar pickup... 6 pole-pieces, none of which lined-up with the strings.

i've been playing bass now for about ...christ...13 years? 14? i don't remember when i got my first bass, which was an acoustic-electric, btw. and in that time i have played everything from that coustylecty to ibanez and yama 5 stringers when i thought i was supposed to be all METALZ0RZ to p's and j's and archtops. for me, the best sounds i've ever, ever gotten have been out of my jazz basses. i owned a mustang bass and even tried to track saturday's child's last album using it on some tracks...and i never, ever loved the tone of it. to me, it was lacking real thump and TONE. but unto each their own, for fucking sure...

i do want to own a pbass similar to my american deluxe jazz someday. for me the choice really is between j and p basses, though like i said, i've played untold numbers of styles and pup arrangements, and each bass has its use. the anaolgy of p-bass to tele is a fairly good one, because both are chunkier, blockier bits of rockitude that are good to have. but the j-bass is just so fucking sweet cheez mcgillicut that i don't know who the hell could argue that it doesn't sound like liquid sex.

the best my bass has ever sounded was on the last record. we ran my amdel j-bass into a vintage ampeg SVT that was run into a vintage ampeg 4x10 cab...warm tubes+warm pups=ear fuckingly good.

i've owned plenty of basses in my time and it all boils down to personal preference. i have a 72 jazz bass with a p-neck and it is incredible. my main working bass is an alembic shortscale. don't let anybody razz you about playing a shortscale. stanley clark plays a shorscale.

How are the pickups on the Mustang bass RI's? Do they sound like the vintage ones? The Japanese websites say they are "duncan designed". Which seems weird to me, because if they're like the vintage ones, then they should be called "Leo Fender Designed", shouldn't they?

I've really been jonesing for a Mustang bass. I've been a bass player since 1990... far longer than I've played guitar. My 1975 Precision is an awesome beast, but I'd like to get another bass, since my last 5 instrument purchases have been guitars.

Anybody know how much vintage Mustang basses sell for?
