I think you should get flat poles, like the originals. With staggarded, you could just push em down, but you risk the chance of breaking the pickup. If you are going to buy one, then just right one from the begining.
Alnico Pro II's are my favorites. They sound amazing.

What kind of covers are you planning on using? If you get regular covers you can go with staggered, if you keep the stock you should get a flat. Only reason I flattened mine was cuz I already had the PU and it's such a nice sounding one that I had to put it on the Mustang. So the option is always there tho'
if you're VERY careful (like Aug apparently was with mine) you can tape the coil up (so no metal bits stick to it) and grind things down, cleaning off any excess flakes with an air compressor...
