Those go for a lot of money, yo. $2500 is a bargain, but still a spend. That thing is flat out gorgeous.

that is a bargain compared to what people usually ask for them. but I think really that $2500 is closer to it's real value. I've watched a few auctions for pre-cbs jazzmasters and jaguars that start very low, just to see what they really end up going for. it's always around that price.

asking $6000 for these guitars is bullshit. it only happens because they're popular with collectors right now. once all the rich people get one the price will go back down again.

Maybe, but that particular guitar is worth at least double the BIN.

The prices on Jazzmasters, Jags and Mustangs are not coming back down. I just don't see a scenario, where that is gonna happen. They might level off, but drop back down, not seeing it.

this is how antique markets work. an item becomes popular, the price inflates, and eventually it pops and goes back down. I doubt it will ever go down to early 90s or 80s prices but they will go to something more reasonable.

I doubt it. Fenders are such a niche market. With antiques one style of design can be in this year, and another can be out next year. Fenders and Gibsons are pretty much always gonna be collectable from here on out. I just don't see it happening.

I can't see them getting any cheaper. The guitars themselves are just getting older and the collector's/corksniffer's market is also growing and there are internet communities full of the buggers now. Before the advent of ebay these things weren't fetching huge bucks as people didn't realise what the demand for vintage instruments is and/or didn't reach an audience of people who would be able to bid against each other. These days something goes on ebay with a reasonable starting price and at least 3 people will be bidding their arses off against each other to buy it.

It's the same with Marshall amps - you used to be able to buy a JCM800 all day for £200-£250. Now they're de rigeur and they're fetching more like £400-£600. That's not going to change - the "older = better" adage is firmly seated in too many minds and a whole new generation of people that grow up reading it on the web.

speaking of the jcm800, i played a blue one in combo form last week. i quite liked it, but at $1200, it doesn't seem worth it. the guy said it belonged to someone in iron maiden. not sure if he was trying to sell me on that or not. i've been looking online for pictures of blue ones, but so far can't find any.

That's interesting, I've never heard or seen one in blue before, but there are a lot of custom tolex jobs out there and if it's ex-Iron Maiden I wouldn't doubt it had been recovered for them. The only blue Marshall combo I know of is the 6101 which is the combo version of my 6100 head.

Was it a single or dual channel one? The duals have a Normal Channel with Volume, Bass and treble controls and a Boost Channel with Gain, Volume and 3-band EQ.

The single channel ones just have Preamp & Master Volumes, 3 band EQ and Presence control.

The 2x12" JCM800 combos I've played are ace, but I'm still hanging on for when a 2204, 2203, 2205 or 2210 head comes along for a reasonable price, since I'm a head and cab guy 4 life.

$1200 is too much I think for a JCM800 combo. something around $800 would be a lot more reasonable.

it was a 50 watt 2 channel. i think it was 1x12.
i've seen them recently on ebay/craigslist in the $500-$700 range. i'm guessing it was so pricey because of the custom tolex. it also had blue grille cloth. it was way cool looking. i was playing a '62 reissue tele custom in ice blue metallic through it. it was so much fun.

It sounds it. Lovely.

When I can't remember Marshall model numbers, I give Dr. Tube a call

Sounds like it was a 4210 you were playing:

The 4210 is the only proper JCM800 I've played. It was quite good, the shop wanted £349 I think. I might go down there again once I get to the stage of buying a new amp and see what they have, they don't have an awful lot but they seem to get a few old decent things in from time to time.

£349 is a good price I'd say for a shop in particular.

This was about 18-24 months ago when the head versions where hitting £360 on ebay regularly and I fancied a head instead. I would have considered a 2x12 combo despite the weight, but with 1x10 (is it 10?) I'd want at least one more speaker and I cant be assed with a combo if I'm still going to use an extra cab.

I think it'll still be £349 if they have it, I haven't been down there in about 8 months or so. It's also the shop I got my ultra fuzz for £39 from.
