I got a Jackson Surfcaster with MBV demo

Thanks guys, i've got "You made me realise" by MBV nailed, it is one of their standard tuning songs.
I'll see how it sounds later using my camera recorder.
I think the Boss HM-2 and Boss DD-6 (in WARP mode) will take care of the middle section of the song. The timing is a bit weird so i may need to keep the song on in the background so i can hear the drums.

Okay, it turned out a little distorted but i think you'll get the picture.
Besides the Boss HM-2 does not do subtlety. I used the Boss DD-6 in Warp mode for the middle eight section.
I flicked between the three pickup positions during the cut down version of the song.

Thanks. Its a shame the recording distorts like fuck. The lipsticks work well with the HM-2 were as humbuckers seem to overload the pedal, i was gonna sell it but i think i'll hang on to the pedal now.

I really like that guitar, except for the way the end of the fingerboard is straight, instead of being rounded. It's a stupid thing I know, but on a guitar like that with soft lines, it doesn't fit as well as it does on a supermetalrockorz masheeen.

Plus, the straight fingerboard kind of takes away from the impact of the straight line at the top of the scratchplate.

That's my only gripe though. The rest's all good.

Aye, i like the angled fretboards on the original Charvel Surfcaster BUT the shark inlays are a bit Icey. Cheers Paul.

yea man, everything about that guitar is awesome. I like the pickguard. chrome knobs are kinda, ehhh, but not a big deal. thanks for the P-ems, yea, that hm-2 seriously nails that sound.

Cheers. Initially its just a delay setting that you adjust with the knobs, but whilst its on if you hold your foot on the pedal it oscillates and also increases the volume (hence the recording device distorting towards the end). When you release the pedal it goes back to the normal delay setting. Its great for that 'wall of noise effect' heard on songs like 'You made me realise', 'Silver Rocket' (SY) and 'Drive Blind' (Ride).

You can still easily get the DD-6.. around Â£90+. The DD-5 was discontinued. It may seem expensive but to be honest, it has everything you will ever need from a delay. I'd say the DD-3 is the most user friendly but features much less.

I just got a Behringer Echo Park clone - it has an insane amount of sounds, more than i'll ever use. but that warp feature is sweet.

hey totally off-topic, but any idea how to get early Idlewild settings? ive been listening to 'Hope is Important' on repeat again, and man best tonez ever - great cleans and great clear but heavy distortions (use 'Paint Nothing' as a reference point, as its my favourite song).

i think Rod used an orange amp and jaguar and maybe rat pedal? i dunno, just sounds sooo good.

EDIT: it was you who said you loved early Idlewild right?

He used a fiesta red Jag-stang on the early stuff. You may be right on the RAT though, i'll have a listen tomorrow. I love 'Film for the future'.

just watched all of their early vids - they all show Rod playing a Vox AC30 and a Orange head for distortion with various guitars.

I refuse to believe such good tones are possible from a jag-stang - i assume he just played it in the videos cos it looked cool.

He sometimes used a JS live i know for a fact, i'll have a look for some photos on my old computer later. It may be a Sovtek Big Muff on that album.

yeh theres a video on youtube of him using his JS live for Rosability. during the closeup you can see he's put a Jb Jr in the neck position - wtf? also the humbucker is different - sounds like a full sized jb.

Anyway i assume he used different guitars live cos of the different tunings they use - cant imagine he recorded with it. but then who knows!

ok just scored a Turbo RAT off a bloke on gumtree. Â£40 with power adapter, decent price but i shoulda haggled.

lets hope it improves me distortion - currently im alternating between marshall guv'nor+ and a DS-2. not massively happy with either.
