my serviceman

Post by light rail coyote »

Here's that serviceman I got off eBay for $150. it looks so cool, and will actually play alright once I get it all fixed up. THe frets were horribly uneven, so I leveled them as best I could. the fret board was also separating, so I glued it back down. THe neck looks to be actual maple, and the body is solid mahogany, not plywood. most of the neck binding is gone, and the wood above the nut is mostly chipped away. The headstock also broke at the seam at one point and was poorly repaired. The pickups actually work, but it needs new pots and switches, cause it wont play. it looks killer though. It's spectacularly dirty. My girlfriend told me it creeps her out cause it's so grimy.
Real v fake

I'm tempted to go all out and thurstonize the bitch, but it's so cool like it is. I think I'll just get it to play and let it sit on my wall. I have so many other guitars that play so well, and have real frets, and a real neck plate.

that does appear to be one of the better versions, i think all around the ones with blocks were made a lil bit better.
my block and bound one had a maple neck too, and hell it was splated maple, that shit is expensive nowadays(go figure, rotten wood, pricey)
does the trem lock work on that thing?
is the guard cut to size or is it a universal thing with metal on top?
is there a steel rod in it?

That's def one of the nicer ones, in spite of the filth and the fury. The neck screws are funny though. Standard slot!
