Ferrules

Post by Fibus »

As i said before i am looking at getting a telecaster and i have seen a few with the strings through the body ferrule style and some without. Whats the deal with them are they good, bad or indifferent? What exactly are they meant to do?

the telecasters strung through the body provide more sustain and a slightly different sound than those without. it actually is noticeable. about a year ago i converted my squier telecaster to through body.
top-loading telecasters are usually, but not always, a sign of cheapness. some '58 to '59 vintage telecasters are top-loading.

Yeah, I love the through body Telecasters I have (Baja, Deluxe - soon to be NickD's). They have a resounding bassy thunk and more presence of sound that you just don't get in a top-loading guitar.

My Mustang project is hardtail with ferrule through-body stringing for this reason.

THe idea of a thunky mustang baffles me. Should be interesting, best of both worlds, like.

That's what I'm hoping for.

Mainly I wanted tuning stability.

There are no tuning instabilities with a vibrato Mustang. Stop spreading lies. LIES! LIES!!!!!!

I had a Jag-Stang, with the exact same tremelo system. It was all over the shop until I locked it. I don't see the point in having a tremelo I will never use and locking it. I'd much rather string through to hardtail.

Ah but I do see the point in having one but still locked down. I like the sound of them, just not the use of them.

The Jag-stang has ruined my ability to tune a guitar. For too long I'd get sick of trying, and think, ah fuck it, close enough.

Now I can't tell if a guitar is out of tune. This is a plus for me, but it bothers other people.
