Typical capacity of the CR2032, the 20mm dia 3.2mm thick 3V lithium cell, is 200-250 milliamp hours. Typical capacity of an alkaline 9V battery is 600-750 milliamp hours. Assuming you use a pair/stack of button cells rather than wasting power in a DC-DC converter, typically you'll be replacing your button cells 3 times as often. If that's not an issue, you could try wiring some CR2032 holders in series on a bit of perfboard and it might give you a better profile than the 9V battery.

If it'll run off 6V you could use a single double-cell holder

That A23BP has a capacity of only 65 milliamp hours, about a tenth of the 9V battery life.

actives have their place. i don't play the music that they seem to sound the best for anymore, but i wouldn't hesitate to rock some emg's if i ever did a metal project.
