I ended up purchasing a 66 Dakota Red Mustang last week and it arrived yesterday.

Ebay Mustang

I was a bit hesitant on purchasing this one because the pickups didn't look original and it was being sold as "Broken" due to non-working electronics. I had the owner email a close-up so I could get a better look.

I took my chances and made the purchase hoping that the pickup covers were modified to expose the pole pieces and that the electronics problem was just a bad connection... turns out I was right. The pickups are original and dated 66 and the input jack had a loose connection.

Everything is original with the exception of an added string tree. When I removed it I was able to fill in the hole with wood that was leftover from the drilling so it's barely noticeable.

When the package arrived I could smell the must through the box. This thing was disgusting. It had a thick sticky layer of 40 year old nastiness over the entire guitar which, after touching, transfered over to my hands. My fingers have an oder that no amount of scrubbing will remedy. Right now the guitar is in pieces and going though the decontamination process. When it's finished I'll post some pictures. You'll be surprised at how well this thing cleaned up.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I forgot...

The pickups are dated 1966
The neck 9APR66a
Pots 032367 -- which I don't know how to decipher.

Very good deal you got there - that'll be a great looking Mustang once the PUP covers are sorted.

It looks great now, but the PUP covers keep pulling my eye away from the beautiful wear.
