i don't think i've ever had an issue with cold solder joints, but i use lead-full solder.
the lead free solder isnt prone to cold joints, it just looks grainy and dull when it cools because of the absence of lead. its mostly tin and silver. theres no real way to get a lead free solder joint to be as shiny and wet looking as tin lead solder, so its whatever.
