Broken trussrod....

I got a Fender US neck, with a busted trossrod. How hard would it be to fix? Anybody done it b4?
Tips and help would be appreciated. Oh and the neck does have a skunk stripe.

whats broken about the truss rod?
is it the nut on the end or what>?
what sort of truss rod is it?

Theres a replacement nut on it...

Not sure what the previous owner did to it, guy is a little shady.

HE sold me the Neck for $50 and me being a dumbass (The neck looked really nice) didnt check the trussrod.

Dude says he'll refund me, tho the fucker keeps stalling coming by w/ the cash

i don't understand how its broken yet.
does it just turn and turn for days and never catch?
or does it tighten and tighten and then release all at once?
either way if it was actually worth something then fixing it would be easy, but it may be easier to get your cash back first.

if you really wanted to repair it, make sure that the fretboard is not one piece and then starte digging out that skunk stripe.
rip out the old compresion rod and put a new one in, and the cool thing is, you could replace the skunk stripe with any kinda wood you wanted.

Not sure brother. Like I said the prev owner fucked around with it, and all I can see is the ends. The top w/ the nut just doesnt look right.

no no no no, sometimes fender puts the skunk stripe in but its fake, in your case its the real deal.
meaning, you can rip the stripe out, take out the truss rod, and put in a new one.

How hard would it be to do Rob (Og)? And how do I go about it? Are the Skunk stripes glued or just inserted then sanded down flush and clearcoated?

the skunk stripe is glued in.
the only hard part about it would be making it look clean.
some re-finishing may be in order depending.
the optimal way of doing it would be to re-route it out with a cnc machine, but none of us have one of those.

Too bad, its a nice neck. Its one of those 50th anniversary necks.

Not in general but it seems luthiers around here are way overpriced.

alot of luthiers prices are pretty crazy.
like a fellow i know charges 35 dollars an hour shop time.
another fellow i konw charges 75 bucks a setup.
it would seem to me that it would only cost 50-100 to get fixed, which would be about the price of a good american neck(150.00)

Um... sir, does that neck have a serial number? Lifetime warranty return that mother! Then you get a new neck!

The neck does have a lifetime warranty, but it has been tampered with. SO that may not work~!
