Anyone make Jazzmaster pickgaurds?

Painting? Routing? Set-up tips? Or just straight-up making a guitar from scratch? Post here, and post pics!

Anyone make Jazzmaster pickgaurds?

Post by letsgocoyote »

Greetings all,

first post to the board. ive aquired an ash JM body form another forum, although i belive it originated from a builder on this forum.
anyhow, so ive got my project...

ill be taking my neck off my current squier bullet strat. i onyl have one guitar, and so i sorta want to transplant some of the soul of the old to the new. the bullet strat has a single piclup in it right now, a tele neck pickup from an 80s mij.

i got two jm pickups with the body but the neck pickup is dead... so im thinking i wanna rock JM bridge, tele neck. is that too weird?

but i need a custom pickgaurd, and i cant seem to find someone to cut one. i contacted terrapin and pickgaurdian with no response.

does anyone here cut JM pickgaurds that could possibly cut one for a tele neck pickup, OR at least leave that space uncut so i can hack it myself

???

bless

not only that, but his name starts with L and constitutes of three letters!

letsgo, what builder did you get it from? Sometimes builders can make a guard for your specific body.

personally though, getting rid of the neck pickup of the jazzmaster takes away the soul of what a jazzmaster pretty much sounds like. So by dead, how do you mean? Did you buy it knowing it was bad?

mix it up a little. put the jazzmaster pickup in the neck and the tele pickup in the bridge.

i suppose maybe the neck pickup is not dead, but i get no reading on it with my multimeter at all... so i suspect somewhere the coil is broken. the bridge comes in at 7.8k

do you guys think the tele neck pickup would be a bad match? my friend has a cij JM, i like the JM sound, but they tend to be quite bright guitars, i was thinking perhaps the tele neck with a jm bridge pup woudl make an interesting balance.
if i need to, i can buy a set of JM pickups off my friend because he upgraded the pickups in his CIJ

i dont know who built the body, I bought it off Inscho at Haunting Mids, he said he got it from someone on here. its an ash body.

im not to fussed that the neck pickup is dead, cuz it was all still a good deal.

also terrapin got back to me today, and they can do it for a decent price, but i need to get a tracing somehow...

but it should be cool. im gonna do blackgaurd on whiteblonde

its a pretty good greyish tan... i suppose if i had to say it had any particular hue, a hint of pink.
im not too fussed about it though. its not in a noticeable spot anyhow. i think im going to do white wash finish
