There's a guy selling a '65 Reissue Princeton for $300. I'm in need of a good amp, should I buy it?

are you sure it's a 1965 reissue? it might just be the solid state princeton 65.

It is definitely not worth 300 dollars. I bought mine brand new for that amount and I sold it like 4 years ago for about 100...

Do not buy one of the 90's solid state princetons! I had a Princeton 112 plus... worst amp I've ever heard... but I bought it when I still didn't know anything about amps or what sounded good. I just thought, hey it's a fender, and it's loud, I'll get it! BIG MISTAKE!!! IT had the worst distortion I've ever heard on any amp ever, and the clean channel could not be configured to be anything less than ear drum piercingly bright. Also, everywhere I went, without fail it would pickup radio stations.

A friend of mine had a solid-state Princeton that, once dialed in, made for surprisingly good Stratocaster sonds. That said.... one more vote for saving up towards a set of tubes with an amp around them.

No, he uses a Fender Deluxe 85. And that doesn't make it OK.
