The Mustang. NEW PICS PAGES 2
So, I ordered a bunch of parts from Guitar Parts Resource (who also fucks wit All Parts).
I got:
Red tort pick guard
Neck pup
Bridge pup
Wiring kit (switches, pots, caps, jack)
'70s F style tuners
Glass slide
Capo
Some strings
A new strap
Some picks
And, oddly enough, all I get is screws for the tuners. No joke, I was freakin' out... I'll probly go off to Lowe's here in a minute, and then Guitar Center, but it's kinda absurd when you think about it.
Also, I'm thankful the F tuners have screws, but they don't fit and neither do the bushings... Totally not vintage correct, ass holes...
On the positive side: The pick guard fits like a glove!
I'm also thinkin' of usin' the back of my old tuners, cause they're fully of mojoy goodness. I mean, come on, rust = tone ftw.
Here's some pics for you all:

If you think of god as a pair of pants, a spiritualist thinks he needs pants, in fact he wants pants but none of the conventional types of pants seem to fit just right, so he makes his own pants and is happy that his knees are no longer cold.-fibus

i have ordered stuff from allparts about... 9 times and 7 times they have screwed me out of parts, and or shipping.
like one time i ordered about 33 bucks worth of cheapo shop strings and they said they were out of stock and they would give me free shipping,(shipping is about 8 bucks on average)
i told them to put back on my credit card and to forget the rest of the order.
and whats even worse.
a fellow i went to school with ordered a vitage correct tele bridge for 150 or so.
they gave him a cheapo 80 doller bridge and told him they would give him free shipping.
70 bucks= 10 dollar shipping?

All my GPR orders and Guitar Fetish orders have always come through surprisingly quick for international orders, and I've always had everything. Sometimes the labelled shipping fee is actually more than what I've paid! Touch wood mind, because I have a GPR order on the way. Let's hope they're up to scratch!

i've ordered from gpr many times and never had any trouble. like malik i probably just jinxed myself.
as for the "f" tuners, from what i understand the ones made in the '60s are very different from the ones made in the '70s and the current reissues are modeled after the '70s ones. so they are "vintage-correct" to some degree.
sucks they don't fit, though. what's wrong with the old ones? this is the trash-stang, right? avoid drilling new holes at all costs.

my neck is like a 67 or so, i literally took a peg hole reemer for a violin and took off small amounts of clear coat and a small bit of wood shavings and they fit tight AS FOOK!
i thought about shaving the teeth off of the bushings but i did that on on as a test and it made it biased to one side and it didn't have enough bite to it in the end.

hahaha
Bubblez has mad memory skills...
There's no way I could get the tuners to fit w/o drilling out a shit load... Maybe I'll trade em or some shit.
They also made a pick up cover WAY too big, and I had to sand it a little to get it to squeeze in.
Here's some old pics (the new ones will be when the guitar is completed, minus the tuners):
I think I'll put the old ones back on and rock out, 5 string style...

The guitar is a 68, I believe, but I think the neck says 16JUN66B.DGNR8 wrote:So these a RI Fs and they don't fit? How old is the neck?
Those are kind of goofy pics, bro.
Edit: On my quest through my room, I believe I either found the original screws or some matches for it... Still, nothin' that'll fit these pups, tho (the pups are plastic, btw, GPR scares me sometimes.

Yea I do. White ones. Oddly enough, one fits perfectly and the other was too fuckin' big. Honestly, how do you make a pick up cover too big? R tards. So I sanded it a little, and sanded the pick guard a little, and then shoved it in there... Looks clean, tho, may try and color them or some shit, they're too white, they nee to look like they've been rolled up and smoked... Along wit the switches, maybe the guard, too...Mike wrote:You havethe pickup covers right? For some reason polepieces on a Mustang upsets me.

After reviewing the wiring job, I think some one before me tried to do it, but wired it backwards... If you follow the wiring guide on the wiki (thanks Aug) the wirse goin' from the pots to the switch are backwards... So, who knows... I do wanna get the pups rewound or what ever, though! Fuck the rest of it, I mean, that stuff is rusted, deteriorated and done for.DGNR8 wrote:So none of the old stuff works? I would still be tempted to just clean it thoroughly and not do much else. Man, that's sweet and sticky.
Update, though: I wired it up, screwed everything down, and fitted it! Sadly, all the screw holes don't match up. Also, I only wired up one string, but it works great, sounds beautiful...
I need some knowledge on the bridge. There's supposed to be springs in there, right? If some one can show some pics of it when it's not strung up, and then a close up of how they've strung it up...
I've gotta find some fuckin' tuners. Maybe I'll get a Warmoth neck. Rosewood, Ebony or Maple?
