Cheap(ish) Amps
I have a beaten up Marshall MG15CDR and to be honest its grand but i want to upgrade, especially since the input jack has started to get a bit fuss. Whats a good amp for under €300? I have been looking mostly at the AVTs, Orange Crushes and Vox Valvtronix (though i am not sure about all the amp models i prefer something with just the normal gain and eq knobs) any advice? Or should i just bite the bullet and blow all my savings on something ridiculous with tubes? I'm not looking for anything outrageous 50wts is about as high as i want to go.

Like I said. Save more money if necessary and break out of the hybrid/solid-state bracket. It's not like those amps can't sound good, but you might aswell take the next step if you want to spend more money.Fibus wrote:what about a marshall avt20 or avt50?Mike wrote:I would say push your budget and get a valve amp. The sooner you step up the ladder the better.
I would check out a Laney LC-15 (£229) or preferably a Laney LC-30 (£300) or VC30 (£300).

The one thing I wish I'd done sooner was to spend as much on an amp as I do on a guitar - I had an LC15, and it was a good little amp, but I'd go for something with a 12" speaker. I keep hearing very good things about the VC30.
I have a TT and a 1x12 cab now, and am happy as Larry. Although I harbour feeling for a DRRI.

I had this problem with an Ampeg VH140C, so then I switched to channel 2 and all is fine.Mike wrote:They're weird though.
They're not really similar to a JCM800. You CANNOT get a clean sound. It's retarded. 120W of power but they overgained the preamp.

I'ma stick to my Smokey's!
If you think of god as a pair of pants, a spiritualist thinks he needs pants, in fact he wants pants but none of the conventional types of pants seem to fit just right, so he makes his own pants and is happy that his knees are no longer cold.-fibus
