yeah, only the newer "LTD" models are lacquered. i don't know why they didn't lacquer them from the beginning, it really helps keep it from looking so scruffy.

the first reissue, the '59 bassman reissue, was just plain tweed without lacquer. the 59 bassman LTD is lacquered, and they upped the price on it too.

the only changes im aware of (from looking at a schematic) is a slight tweaking of some values in the tone stack, the speakers, the tweed, and they removed the useless ground switch. the ground switch on the '59 reissue is just there for accuracy, it isnt connected to anything. it is so dumb.

i probably will try to use some carpet cleaner to at least get those stupid drink rings out of the top.

but yeah i agree, they did it mostly for looks but why bother. the LTD doesnt have it and no one crapped themselves. whateva.

i guess bubbles' wit has garnered him a reputation. His point was straightforward. Vintages didn't have grounded plugs.
