I forgot to take pictures of the process.
The new wilkinson roller nut was 3/16 and the factory one is 2/16
So I just used the existing nut as a guide and cut on the tuning peg side with a back saw.
The nut just popped out on the final stroke, (surely some have heard that before)
I then filed the groove down evenly
Put a dab of liquid nails
Slid in the nut and strung it up.

Nothing burned!

So my relic is now pretty much done.

the nut works amazing....great for bending...can really feel a difference

Whether or not hand wound has anything to do with it just doesn't matter to me that is not why I bought them...I bought them becuse of the tone description. I wanted the old "Quack" that has been lost on strats for years....in particular in the 2 and 4 spots.

then there is the roller nut and trem which is fantastic...vintage looking quick lock wilkinson tuners

the pickguard I did with sandpaper and shoe polish
all the new gold was rolled for an hour in a pail with rocks..(thanks mage)
all dings were conrete stoops...screw drivers pliers and the like

Mmmmmm.....

IMHO the wear on the body and the pickguard look a bit overdone. You got entire chunks of paint missing on that thing. The pickguard looks scratched as opposed to aged. Again its just my opinion and since It's not about what I like but about what you like feel free to tell me where to go.

Pickups I'm sure sound great, would love to hear them.

Good job with the aging of the hardware.

I'm not a fan of forced relicing. In fact the only guitar I like any artifical relicing on is the Joe Strummer Telecaster.

And that's because the guitar is still cheap.

To make relicing seem real is hard... I would think that by just gigging ridiculously with it, and possibly framptonizing it would be the most effective ways... But, I like that people have realized that paint doesn't matter.

One of the coolest things for me is not having to be careful with the guitar. It's liberating for sure.

may I make a suggestion? the finish looks shiny and new except for the gashes in the finish. you need to wet sand with like 2000 grit over the whole body so it'll be less shiny and more like the nicks and scrapes aren't so fresh.

Thanks, I'll do that. that has been the hardest thing is getting past the finish...wherever you start once rubbed it's just like the unfinished side of plexi-glass

Mage...the local store only 600, tried it ina spot for the heck of it.

I found and ordered off eBay, some 2000 and 2400 and requested 3000.

I could only find up to 2000 locally and yes that still leaves some fine scratches (Even after using Scratch X and buffing). I should order some higher grit myself, let me know how it works out for you.

you could do 600. just you'd need to work your way back up, like 1000, 1500, 2000 or something.

you have to go to a paint store. or a store that has wood finishing kind of stuff. another option, get a medium cut polish kind of stuff. might be able to find that at an auto store.

I think you should go 1500 and up. If you dont like it then go 1000 and up and so on... Start higher cuz if you start too low you and you don't like it, there's no coming back.

while I agree with you starting high is good, but you can always come back. you just gotta work your way all the way back up to polish.
