Could someone explain to me what exactly is "British OD

I see people describing Overdrive as "British" but i have no idea what that even means. I'm guessing an overdriven Vox sound?

Vox or Marshall, normally. EL34ish, upper mids, snarly.. more crunchy than saturated high gain stuff.

More Marshall than Vox is what the British overdrive sound refers to.

Overdrive, not Distortion
Prominent but not humped mids.
A cutting upper midrange attack accompanied by a chunky bass end.

Just kidding.

Think Marshall/Orange/Vox verses Fender or Mesa type stuff.

British OD is oppressive. Watch out for them, they'll steal your language/tax monies.
