Good call, it's no doubt got 4 EL34s or something in it, meaning you can pull a pair out to run at 60w- although it'd definately need servicing to sort the bias out for that.

edit: one review on HC is saying it runs on 6 EL34s! Hardcore. Could pull it down to like 40w then, loud enough, but will break up when pushed, awesome.

Trev Wilkinson will probably take the valve out for you.

That's not really Tatty at all by 60s Fender standard. Fantastic Score.

I think it's a 1979, but it's still in better nick than I am. Just played it for an hour or so: it's lovely! Makes every pickup on each of my guitars sound distinctly different (tele bridge and JM neck being highpoints) and, not at all surprisingly, it sounds Fender-y as fuck. Although I was playing mainly clean, it takes to pedals nicely (the Chunky Cheese was ace), and the trem is amazing, whether set to a light shimmer or full on chop. String to string definition is really good, and much as I keep harping on about it, the bass is amazing.

Indeed it does have 6xEL34. Our bass player at school had one (the one whose brother had Selmer T'n'B 50 MkI and MkIIs). I traced the schematic.

So, what's been happening; as posted elsewhere, I cracked it open this week at work and found all this stuff inside:

After umming and ahhing for a while, I've ordered new capacitors from the USA. Also got this in the post today:

An 8" Weber signature alnico speaker, which is pretty much what would have been in there from stock, before the forces of time and the guitar shop idiots conspired against the amp. So, it's out with the old...

... and in with the new:

Now, as I've previously noted, I have ears of tin, but it doesn't half sound nice. It's worth noting that this speaker, in the UK, would cost about £50 (one place wanted even more!) - price in the USA? £17. Even though I got charged the same again for postage, even this was cheaper than one supplier wanted to charge me to ship within the UK! Bastards. Hooray for eBay.

Nice - where did you get the speaker exactly? I might get a 10" greenback at some point.

I bought it from US eBay - I would have bought direct from Weber himself (that's where the caps are coming from) but he needed crazy postage. Just do a search and click "items available to the UK".
