The Jaguar bass red is called "Hot Rod Red," the Mustang bass is Fiesta Red.

Fiesta Red looks orange under yellow light. The same way sonic blue was often mistaken for surf green on all those old jag-stangs, there were an equal number of people saying they had a "rare orange" one.
Still not a big deal if you like the colour, but the mustang bass re-issue has always come in this colour, just this and white, in fact. I think St. Jimmy had one which he put a blue comp stripe on and it ended up looking like an optical illusion.
You'd need to see it in person to draw the conclusion that it's orange, so if you haven't seen a deep red one in person put 2 and 2 together.

I didn't know the Jag bass came in Hot Rod Red, never really thought about it, the only other guitar I know of in that colour is Knopfler's custom Strat.

Very nice set up there! Let's have some pics of that Orange!

Only outside of Japan. In the Land of the Rising Sun, they come in a slew of colours, and they even have a whole range of competition-striped designs, including several comp-colours that weren't available the first time around. (click the second link in the top left to see them).

It really pisses me off that when Fender chooses to export Japanese models, they always limit the colour options from what is actually available in Japan. Why? Who knows.

The reissue Mustang Bass has a Seymour Duncan designed pickup, so maybe that's why the RI sounds better.

I've been jonesing for a Mustang bass for a while... I'm planning on buying one this fall. I don't know if Ishibashi will ship to Canada, but I hope they do, 'cause I'd love to have me a blue one!

No!!!

Buy some vinyl. Sort of like bumper sticker material. you can get it in a lot of colours and it wont damage the paint job at all.
