...they're probably built like P90s with bar magnets (or worst case, like cheap strat pickups).

There's a lot of unappealing in that guitar, and I can't decide how much less I hate it than a normal Paul... it's very ugly, granted.

It looks like a sorry Melody Maker to me. And the bridge? Wtf? Loss of tone-land. To be fair the Melody Makers rock due to their simplicity and hardware (even though the headstock is dreadfull) but this
