IT IS FINISHED

Post by DGNR8 »

Okay, well not quite. Neither was the crucifixion or the war in Iraq. But I am done painting. Thus far this weekend I painted a Daphne Bronco and a black Rickenbacker tulip. I had the usual specks and scuffs in the process, made worse by blistering, humid heat. I had never gotten blushing before. Of course it is on the only black guitar I have/will ever do. Black is so unforgiving and shows every imperfection, including my fat thumbprint on the neck, and when it accidentally touched the dirty 2x4 it was sitting on. I still don't get how people paint through necks. I have gone through many cans this weekend and have fewer to sell or unload now.

In addition, I have boxed my 67 Bronco, 65 Duo, a Martin, a Don Everly Black Epi acoustic (like Cowbell's) and a few parts. Stay tuned to the classifieds section because I am going to be selling and giving away spare pieces as they come available. I imagine only Robert and 3D would want most of them. I may have to post on Reranch as well.

Thus far the only keepers are going to be the 72 Musicmaster, the 70s MIJ maple Epi acoustic, and either the 73 Tele Deluxe or the Mosrite Celebrity. Is 4 excessive? I am going to try to finish the other Celebrity and the RobertOG/Cowbell DGNR8 Stratster today in prep for sale. The Ric and blue Bronco will be ready in a month or two for sale. Now, obviously I may decide to hoard a few extras. But I need to simplify my life and part of that is getting guitar shit off my drawing table so I can paint properly with decent light and space, instead of on the guest room carpet. I feel like I am cleaning up after an estate sale. There are all these guitars in mid assembly with forgotten details. I used to live near an old hippie who wandered around town and looked like such a throwback to the 70s. I started calling him Dude Interrupted after the movie about the girl who went to the asylum for a while in her teens. This year feels like an interruption of grief. I am not standing yet, but I can limp along enough to start airing out the place. Thanks for your patience. I haven't been contributing like I once did.

I'll put some up later, ADD permitting. I am trying to do all the stuff I can while my wife is out of town and my daughter is at grandma's. I will pick her up tonight and then I can sit at the computer and poast many pics. I also took pics of the collection, such as it is.

The wiring always fucking hangs me up. The orange Celebrity is not grounded so it's buzzing for shit. The Stratster is just going to have to be wired like a Tele.

Here's the Bronco. There's nothing else to show quite yet. I got the Strat wired, but I haven't finished assembly. I have broken drill bits and stripped a number of screws on that thing. I think Robert said he used alder on it. It is fiercely dense.

I was going to try to make this Mary Kay (translucent white with accents of copper around the edge. At one point I had it, but not knowing how much was enough, I kept spraying, and it turned to shit. For a while it looked like wood grain, with slight bits of sparkle in it. The light would have to catch it just right to see anything. But then I was trying to fix it with more of one or the other, and it started getting muddy. I wiped it all off, but was out of white. It was probably just as well--it was very conceptual. I had also painted the neck a ghostly white with copper and gold around the headstock. Could have been HOT or NOT. Instead I went with the favorite out of all the colors I have painted, which is Daphne. I am not sure about the cream guard I got from DDDave. But we will see once I get it polished. I do not condone rushing the wet sand or sharing needles, but I have already wet sanded the neck. I am trying to hold back from sanding the body or the Ric.

Awesome.
If you think of god as a pair of pants, a spiritualist thinks he needs pants, in fact he wants pants but none of the conventional types of pants seem to fit just right, so he makes his own pants and is happy that his knees are no longer cold.-fibus
