Srsly?), he's only been using them for 30 years. Thing is though, his sound is more to do with his awesome pedal board and awesome fingers than the guitar.
Trivia: The great 'Strat' solo in 'Another brick in the wall' was actually played on a Les Paul Custom. Fact.
Straight into the mixing desk, allowing it to clip lightly.

When I read an interview with Gilmour about the possibility of a signature strat, he seemed to be pushing for the idea of a "budget" model, either made cheap on the Fender label, or even suggesting a Squier model. It's disappointing that it doesn't seem to have happened, but I've not seen the price for this yet so we'll see.

The type of people who will be most interested in buying this are the top who post at the TGP and will spend whatever fender want to charge for it. I really doubt a budget model is on the cards.

Pretty much, yeah. Even if it was pretty cheap I wouldn't actually buy it, and I love Gilmour.

It wouldn't be stupdenously expensive or difficult to do a 50's spec strat in that colour scheme if you've got an inclination towards the Dark Side would it, strat parts are plentiful and the vintage-spec boom is in full swing.
They should have done an issue of his "0001" strat or whatever it's called, an expensive version of that would REALLY sell amongst the TGP crowd.
