Who uses #11's on their short-scale guitars?

The original shortscale guitars; Mustangs, Duo-Sonics, Musicmasters, Jaguars, Broncos, Jag-stang, Jagmaster, Super-Sonic, Cyclone, and Toronados.

Who uses #11's on their short-scale guitars?

Post by Armchair Bronco »

I'm using #11-52's on my Squier Jagmaster, and I'm gearing up to put some #11's on my new Classic Player Jaguar Special HH when I have the inagural setup done on this axe -- I think Fender puts #10's on all its short-scale guitars.

I've settled on Gibson Brite Wires (#10-46's) on my SG Classic -- I like the chime they add to this otherwise darker sounding guitar. I think I'll give some Brite Wire #11's a try on my Jag.

Who else uses #11's?

Man it up, dude!

12's are the absolute minimum size I use on my acoustic Takamine -- after my next fret job, I'd like to try out some 13's, since it's pretty much impossible to bend 12's anyway.

On a short-scale, I think anything less than 11's get too floppy, especially if you tune your guitar down a full step (Nirvana) or use bizarro de-tunings ("The Rain Song").

Yeah, why the hell would I want to do that. I don't need alternate tuning assistance to rawk.

Are you suggesting that "The Rain Song" doesn't rawk? We're talking Zeppelin, man! And the only way to play that song is to de-tune to DGCGCD! :)

YARZ.

I honestly didn't "get" Subz' Jaguar back in January, but with my Sonic Blue CIJ now on .011s and a Mustang bridge I have real respect for the Jag's playability and tone. I beat the crap out of it regularly and it feels/sounds great on teh 11z.

Dude! Those are some SERIOUSLY THICK strings!

Were you able to load 'em up without a nut job? When I put #12's on my Jagmaster a long time ago, the low E was basically resting on top of the nut, so I had to "downgrade" to #11's.

I use the robroe strings, except 11-50 'cause I don't rock as hard as rob.

11's on teh shortsclaes, with a 12 for the high E. Does that mean they're not 11's anymore?

Low string rule! Cobain didn't even use the high E on half of his guitars.

If you've got something close to a #50 on the low E, then you're solidly in the #11 camp.

Cobain is been dead for a while, plus it should be about what you like not about what Cobain liked.
