HALPS ME PLEASE! PIKTARS! I $ U!
I got two questions for the kinda folk of the shortscale.
1.
anyone got any cool tricks for shrinking/ aging a tort guard?
2.
im still in search of a wiring diagram of a 3 way roto switch for the 12 string project.
anyone?

Re: HALPS ME PLEASE!
The only thing I can think of for the guard it to alternate it between the sun and the air conditioning. Leave it outside during the day and bring it in at night.robert(original) wrote:I got two questions for the kinda folk of the shortscale.

As for the rotary switch, I dunno. Some guys on offset made Jazzmaster Deluxes and used the XII rotary, but I think they used all six positions for various tapping/phasing.
(Jazzmaster Deluxe is actually a Jazzblaster, but done 70s style in Walnut with WRHPs and black plastic. Very cool, they look like something Fender actually would have made, custom decals and all....)
Not to hijack your thread, but:
I just thought it was too cool... had to show it since I mentioned it.

yeah, i asked a few guys at the offset forum but they all knew the 4 position and not the 3 position, i think i have it figured out, but i want to be sure before i solder, de-solder, solder, and then de-solder again making it look like poo.
its an alpha pot, and i checked the alpha page but, no dice.

seriously, does anyone have any sort of fucking wiring pattern for a 3 way rotary, i tried some shit before work and it did not work(no pun intended)
i could get one pickup to work by it self(like a 2 way)
but not both.
its driving me crazing buz i want to sell it soon or have it ready by the time of the benefit.

Robert, Are you going to use all 6 positions? What do you want each position do do?
If you just need to check continuity and don't have a meter you can use a 9v battery and a led light to check it. Even without that you can get creative and use a flash light, I've had to do that at work in a pinch.
I used an 8 way rotary on one of my amp builds to change a resistor value in the preamp, but that was a simple in and out circuit.
edit: I don't know why I read it as a 6 position.

I'm going to guess that the guys using a 4 way switch have their's set up in these positions:
1 - off
2 - bridge
3 - both
4 - neck
and you would want your 3 way like this:
1 - bridge
2 - both
3 - neck
Am I close?
If their using the same type switch you could use the same schematic and just ignore the 1st (off) position couldn't you?
Rotary switches typicaly are designed in an X layout with an in and out. The pin on the upper left would correspond with the pin on the lower right like this 2 pole:
Getting each pickup working on their own should be pretty straight forward, the trick will be getting them both together.
To do that I *think* yer gonna need a 4 pole like this:
I know these pictures show 6 positions, I couldn't find any other images to use, but they give the general idea. HERE is the only guitar layout I could find using a rotary. It's more complicated than what your trying to do, but you can see how the signal flows through the switch.
Do you have a picture or link to the one yer using?
1 - off
2 - bridge
3 - both
4 - neck
and you would want your 3 way like this:

2 - both
3 - neck

i knows its crap but thats the best i can pull off until i gets the camera back from my ole lady.

Hehehe I can't make any sense out of that . I did however find the wiring diagram for Fenders Electric XII in the Shortscale Wiki.

ok, even tho the camera is on the fritz again(go figure sawdust and digital camera's don't mix)
i was able to get at least one photo to upload.

if someone figures out how this fucking thing gets wired up i will pay you!
and remember its a 3 way switch, not a 4,5, or 6.
i have found schematics for ones all the way up to 12. but that doesn't do shit for me when i only have a 3 position.
and all i want it to do is
1st position(down)
bridge
2snd
both
3thd(up)
neck

I would be my guess and this is only a guess .
That the 3 sets of three around the outside correspond to the three positions input of the switch and the group of three on the inside would correspond to the three positions output and the one guy hanging out by it's self would be the main output.
I think I have an idea in my head how it should work but, with out it being checked for continuity it would be hard to tell though.
If I had it in my hand I could figure it out. Do you need it for the benefit this weekend? If not and you can make it here on Saturday bring it with.

the benefit is actually on saturday, and im trying to get it done in time, if i cannot figure it out in time then i will throw a three way toggle in there.
i had it working with 1st postion being bridge, middle dead, and third for bridge, but trying to get both of them at the same time proved to be a trick,
the inner lugs are ground, and the outers are hot for sure.
its just trying to wire the hots around so that one feeds into another that is really killing me.
