Guitars with technology (obscene content)

Post by timhulio »

This might be the least popular poast in shortscale history, but recently I've had a hankering for something new and unusual. Always been fascinated by different materials used in guitar construction, or wood used in different ways. Also, I really want another guitar with built-in hexaphonic/gk pickup.
Post some examples of new guitars you like that do something different. No Line 6 content lolz.

Parker Southern Nitefly:
Look at it! It's a Tele, but cool shaped and nice and light (my MIJ '62 with Bigsby weighs a ton and for this reason will shortly find itself on ebay).
Downsides: too many stupid controls, piezo pickups used for acoustic sonds rather than MIDIs.
Image

Yamaha RGX A2:
It's made from a sandwich of hard and soft woods, with 'sound tubes' under the bridge. SOUND TUBES! Has cool rotary pickup selector with lights and fancy tuners. Looks gorgeous. Plus has no tone control- I hate those things.
Downsides: doesn't do anything particularly high-tech. Also, Yamaha!?!
Image

Godin LGXT-SA:
Comes with 13-pin GK socket for full MIDI awesomeness. Plus normal pickups, plus acoustic lamery.
Downsides: incredibly fuckin ugly

The Yamaha is an AMAZING guitar - it's sooo comfortable and sounds wonderful. I was really close to buying one, but it was so high-tech feeling that it would've been the odd man out amongst mustangs and danos.

That pointy bit on the parkers always nails me right in the sternum - they're good overall, though.

The Brian Moore iGuitars I left out because they're even uglier than the Godin, same goes for Switch guitars unless someone proves me wrong.
I'm completely gonna try the Yamaha tomorrow. The music shop round the corner has only 2 guitars in the window, a Sloan-esque black tele with 3 humbuckers and a mirror pickguard, and the AGX.

Behringer iAxe USB guitar
Amp and effects modelling technology almost always sucks. I know I hate my POD. This thing lets you play a cheap strat into effects and amp models. Probably something to do with the internet. Can't use it live. However, it's like £92 and none pentz.

That's the one! Lol @ how many screws they need to stop the pickups breaking-out and flying away.

I'd play any of these monstrosities, Timmy. ROCK ON.

I dig the Yamamamahaha. InThisVid: BAD FLANGE.

Definately shoulda made the pickup selector a mix balance rather than segmented, woulda been miles cooler.

How can you have this thread without the Gibson Robot Guitar:

I have no idea what is making that sound in the background but it cracks me up
