Strat #2

Post by Doog »

So Sir Thomas of Lamp gave me a stickered Strat body and neck at Doogfest for NATHING! What a gent.

The original plan was the body was to replace my Strat body with it's bad bridge routing, so I could have it intonate properly. I just goofed with it, and it's really not too far out... and seeing as I have a neck I didn't know I'd be getting (which is awesome) it's PROJECT GUITAR TIME!

I cleaned off all the stickers and paint, but couldn't get rid of TEH ETCHINGS that the "artist" put in the guitar with the paint pattern, but it's no biggy, looks kinda neat.

I'm thinking I'll do something interesting with the pickups. Maybe P90s? Maybe get my very own Robroe Weezer geet? Who knows! Gimme some ideas for something novel!

PS: I chickened out on the Jazzy refinish, I might refin this one as a first timer, I just didn't wanna fuck up my most pricey guitar and make it uuuuuugly :/

I had a feeling you'd CHICKEN out. Understandable though, hard to mess with your number 1.

I think it looks ace with those etchings.

Filtertron or toaster type?

You're aiming to do this for cheap I assume, so GFS or similar is the plan?

Awesome. Looks pretty good with the etchings (done by my mate Jonny with a compass when we were at Uni! Think we'd had a few beers!)
There was a guy on the Orange forum who put in 3 P90s into a strat and it looked cool, although a bit crowded.

But I think James' idea of filtertrons would be pretty sweet.

Defo gonna do it on the cheap, and probably just keep it 2 pickups- I never use the middle one on my other Strat.

Worth having a browse. You can usually buy stuff cheaper from their ebay shop.

These would be my initial "this would look sweeeet" reactions:

..and while I think it still looks fuckin' class, it'd be nice to have something a bit different to the Jazzy and current Strat..

I'd try the filtertrons. Definately be offbeat.

I would put a Black Pickguard and either black or white P90s in that.

Can't help it! I'm not a fan of many black+X colours, and I don't wanna refinish the body because of costs..

Are you going to re-route the strat or is it already routed for that kinda pickup configuration?

Yeah, that would be my other choice:

It's a bit "The Edge" but still pretty neat..

It's routed for H-S-H, would probably just open it up into a swimming pool route. Although P90s are wider than buckers, I guess?

Possibly bucker-sized P90s then.

The 3-way route would be simple, and will be hidden anyways, so it can look shite. And probably will.

How about black guard and knobs, with 2 of these...

Dots has them in a strat I think (maybe toronado), so you can get an idea of what they look like if you find that pic.
