Hurb? telecaster? does not compute!

Post by Hurb »

I bought nickd's tele at the doogfest, it a squire body we believe with some other neck that has had a fender decal added. the neck is actually why I bought the geet, as tele's don't do a lot for me visually really.

I have already started to hurbify it, strap locks =check!
Tonight I took the old neck pickup out and routed the pickguard for a robroe covered single coil(its actually a cheapo pickup and a little smaller than a normal mustang pickup.)and wired it all in...first time I have seen under the hood/bonnet of a tele. looks coool, sounds kool....check it bad picture

Next up is possible taking the tone out and putting a kill switch in there and a proper setup for 11's or 12's(it has arsey 9's on right now) might replace the tuners for some white button ones. dunno about painting it, I kinda like the colour now.

Also in that picture is the faux xii I have restarted, I rerouted the edges to be more ROUND. And I need to cut a new pickguard(paper template is on there) as I have a real fender xii control plate from mr moustache so the old pickguard now doesnt fit. I WILL GET THIS DAMN THING FINISHED!

congratulations hurb, as per kill switch, thought of putting it between the volume and tone, a la greenwood?

(please excuse the tape, i broke off the tip being a bit aggressive with the switch and am awaiting parts)

No I hadn't but I don't really fancy putting one there really...for 1 I will be using a jazzmaster switch(why? because I have one!) so Space will be too cramped. and 2 It's kinda looks a bit fiddly there for my cumbersome fingers. I had thought about flipping the plate though, so I have volume knob then kill switch then selector switch .

cheers zaphod! I wonder if a robroe style pickup in the bridge would look kool? I know it wont fit over the tele pickup thats there now...so I would need to devise a cunning plan!

I was thinking about that, it might look a bit lace sensor-y though. I would definately go for the killswitch in place of tone, I've never really found a use for one on a tele.

Love the virtual black, it's like an upper-level disturbance Star Trek black guitar.

Friend or faux?

Nice geet-fiddle there Jorden! I really dig the fact that you Hurbified it and made it your own. There's no point in conforming 'just because' of vintagez sake. And I love, love the fact that you still take quite possibly the worst pictures EVER! At least your playing more than makes up for it... (not that I can say that about myself  )

Look forward to seeing this one completed! I should have my Tele finished on Wednesday as I got the Neck+Pickups today. I expect the rest to arrive Monday, Tuesday the absolute latest.

Lookd cool in black. Glad the weakass neck pup has gone too.

The body/pickups are definitely Squire Affinity, I bought it complete new, and sold off the neck. Dunno what the neck is, but Hurb is right, the neck is lush. I just don't need any Teles bar the Deluxe.

See, I'm the opposite: I like the bridge pickup with the tone up on 10 most of all, but it also sounds great with the tone backed off almost completely. My telecaster is the guitar that makes me mess with the tone controls most of all. Hurb, reversing the control plate is a great idea: I did it on my old thinline, and it was great fun, doing hideous pretend lap steel noises and getting odd cramps in my little finger.
