Robert, I've been thinking about this all day and stoped by the old tv & radio lab on my way home from work tonight to see if they had a switch like yours (they don't).
I've got an idea how it might work, but just want to be sure of a couple of things.
You said that the 3 in a row in the middle are ground. Do they definitely have continuity to the screw threading and housing?
When you had it working before were you using the 1 pin in the middle thats by its self at all?

You don't need to do that. I just made a continuity tester in about 1 minute using a 9v battery, 3 pieces of scrap wire, some tape and the bulb from an amp.
Heres how:
It took me longer to make the diagram than it did the actual tester.
Rob, get a multimeter. It will make your wiring jobs EZEEE. Anyhow, I totally forgot my jazzblaster is wired with a three way rotary, if you hold tight, I will mspaint your pic of your switch later on tonight when I take a look at it. It's actually pretty easy.
3 way swtch, new gurad, pics comming soon,
its going up for auction for a benefi,
as long as i get 375 iwill let it go,(thats bare parts alone, no wood.pups inculded, totally worth it in my book)
