urg, this was supposed to be my post rehearsal-volume evaluation of the green big muff but disaster struck. i turned it on and the earth hum coming from it was unbelievable, totally audible over the fuzz. turns out the CHEAP SHIT maplin power supply i was using is churning out far too much voltage and seemed to be overloading it (i even set it to 4.5v and it was still going mental). i tried it with the supply for my ns-2 and it was lovely, but i needed that to power the rest of my pedals. so that means i have to wait another week before i can crank it properly. ratcocks!
i've had nothing but disappointment from maplin over the years, i used to be a staunch defender but no more. EVERYTHING i buy from there fucks up, and it's getting tedious!

That's shit mate, must have just been a completely bad power supply.
The power bank things they sell I think are pretty decent for 19.99 and they're not made my Maplin, the goons. If you're wanting a great solution I would recommend a Diago power station.
Boourns on not getting to rock it out properly. Bad times.

i've got the supply i used with the NYC muff, i just need to change the tip so it fits. i'm just glad i found the problem before it burned any pedals out. i plugged it into the ns-2 which daisychains all the other pedals, and the LEDs were all lighting up even though they were switched off. straight to the bin for that bad boy.Mike wrote:That's shit mate, must have just been a completely bad power supply.

Proper wank. Could you not just get another daisy chain to add to your curren NS-2 one? or are you flirting with the mA limit?

um, i'm not sure about the mA limit, but there's only 4 pedals on the daisychain so i reckon it would be fine. the cable i've got at the moment is from one of these 'power system' type things (like the diago), and i'm using it backwards (if that makes sense) so there's only 5 sockets on it including the one that connects to the ns-2. i could just buy a daisychain cable with more outlets, i suppose! i need a couple of those virtual battery things for my amp splitter anyway so i may as well sort it all out in one go.Mike wrote:That is ridiculous.stewart wrote:i've got the supply i used with the NYC muff, i just need to change the tip so it fits. i'm just glad i found the problem before it burned any pedals out. i plugged it into the ns-2 which daisychains all the other pedals, and the LEDs were all lighting up even though they were switched off. straight to the bin for that bad boy.Mike wrote:That's shit mate, must have just been a completely bad power supply.

Hemy-Roid Fuzz x 1
I'm sure I've missed some. Fuck me, that's 26 pedals.
Btw, that pedal is runing my life. I had my metally sounding stuff all set, and using my GSP-7 as a distortion the crunch was through the floor, and palm mutes were punch and nice. I put that GR upstream of that, and holy shit. The squirrely nature of it when you play chords just fills my sound out with tons of added girth. Mutes now are all wet and drippy but still punchy. it's just completely sick. I don't even want to get into the insanty it does with pinch harmonics. Damn you Green Ringer, and damn you Mike Livesley for making me so dependant on this pedal.

I'm dead glad you're loving it. A properly idosyncratic thing, that pedal is. I'm beyond chuffed you're loving it.

I'm so tired.
5 hours of soldering. This is what I do on a Friday night, it's so depressing I want to cry.
This is Astro's Foxx Tone Machine/Fulltone Ultimate Octave. Needs two more Ge diodes
This is a Woolly Mammoth I made just because
Also did flying leads for Benecol's Fuzz Face (left), misc Green Big Muff and Woolly Mammoth (right) and Astro's Fuzz and Booster (which I also built tonight - bottom)
This evening - fueled by Carlsberg Export - solder responsibly kids.

I've tested Benecol's Fuzzface, Astro's Saltbooster and the Big Muff and Woolly Mammoth and they're all working fine and sounding great. The Octave Fuzz for astro needs another pair of Germanium Diodes that should arrive next week to be completed. I've marked his cases for drilling on Tuesday. Did the last coat of silver on Benecol's case which I'm now finally happy with unless something goes wrong in the drying process (painting Silver is a pain - very unforgiving).
I have some stuff to make decals for settings and the name of the pedal and a logo on the back which I'm going to have a play with, starting with the Woolly Mammoth which I have given a shortscale name to.

d'you reckon you could make a fulltone ocd? dunno how complicated they are but if you could do one or less than the £140 or whatever retail i could be tempted...

Nah I was just bored mate, I'd still be interested in your designs. I got laser labels and I think my printer is inkjet so it could all go wrong and cost me a printer :-/stewart wrote:ah, did you get sick of waiting for me to do it? i'm a lazy bastard, honestly!Mike wrote:I have some stuff to make decals for settings and the name of the pedal and a logo on the back which I'm going to have a play with, starting with the Woolly Mammoth which I have given a shortscale name to.

I have a schematic around, I think it's do-able. I could probably do it for around £80/£90 in a box the same size as your muff. I've have to prototype it first and see how it goes.
