Jagmaster Project

Post by Fran »

Continued from this thread.

Firstly thanks to Lamp, Bassintom and Sparky for help with parts.
I put the pieces together today. I had a suspicion i would like the tort on black combination after a previous Jag HH conversion i did a year back, and i do.
See what you think. It would be a shame to refinish it even though i was totally impressed by Fullerplasts Shell Pink Jaguar project.

Sorry about the pic quality. I'm undecided on knobs and i need to get a pickup mounting ring for the neck 'bucker so it matches up. The SP falls slightly short at the trem but i'm not concerned, its hardly noticeable with it being black and i can always glue a piece in.

I'm also undecided on the headstock. Its a nice large 70's style headstock but i dont know whether to leave the Squier decal on, put a Fender Jaguar decal on or get one custom made.

The other idea was the Vanity Trem. Imo the Jagmaster looks a bit blank behind the Strat trem, although on this model (whichever it is) the Strat trem seems further back. So like the John Squire 'Jazzuar' i considered fitting a Jag trem just for aesthetics, it would not actually be functional.
I put one in place, see what you think...

Any suggestions welcome. :D

I like it, wouldn't do the vanity trem personally, but it's your call.

The trem plate looks very out of place with the strat bridge. The bridge is too bulky to keep the slimline sexy look of the trem setup. I don't see any reason to change the squier logo either.

Thanks mike, i'm thinking the same now. It does'nt look anywhere near as blank as my Vista Jagmaster did.

I see what your saying. I'm gonna put some work into getting this vintage trem working right and slightly floating (ala Jeff Beck) as well, i use trem a lot lately.

I don't know, I get James on the Squier logo but plain black decals have always bothered me whether it says Squier or Fender. NEEDS color. Even gold Squier logos rule. I think it would almost look better without a decal at all.

I GOT IT!
ok, fran i know you have a steady hand, so this is what you gotta do.
get a white paint pen, and trace out the squire logo, you know like the older fender logos and the really nasty 80's logo's i think it would look fucking bad ass!

Just white with no outline? You got an example?

Nah he means trace over the edge of the existing logo. So it's white with a black centre.

Thanks dude on helping us out with that ;)
I'm really pleased with the results so far, put some Mustang knobs on it last night. Thinking about a discreet mini switch to disable the neck pup so the main toggle switch can be used for a Morrelolz kill switch.

yeah, the vista trem was farther up than on the newer one. Because they made it 25.5" scale they had to move the trem back like a half-inch.

man... now I really want to start a jagmaster modding project...

ugh, not me. I had one and I tried for so long to like the neck, but in the end I had to face the fact that it was a bag of butts.

Yeah, nice touch. I waved it around whilst listening to RATM.
