ZVex would struggle in any court with IP or copyright. The only thing he has a leg on is his branding and name.

I though Zvex was quite quick on issuing IP takedown notices on schematics regarding clones of his pedals?

You certainly can't buy any clones or kits on ebay, and even discuss them on HC or the Muse forum.

Is there a schematic of the SHO on that site? I can't read gibberish.

The is general moderation. He asks moderators of forums not to allow it. Freestompboxes open discuss and dissect his pedals and ignored his threats. If you were selling a circuit which was basically a Fuzz Factory there is very little he could do. He can protect his trademark but can do very little about the actual circuits.

Case example being when Behringer released all their Boss clones. The only thing Boss could do was sue them over the copying of cases, so Behringer redesigned them.

Seriously, with the mystery around this pedal for years I am dying to see the schem to know how it is different from the AMZ Mosfet Boost.

Eh, nothing I thought. I thought Zvex was pretty open about it being basically that circuit.

He said it started as that circuit, but always hinted that he changed something in it. I want to know what it was. I've built my own variants of that circuit and want to know how close I got to the legendary SHO.

Dude, if people could sue for making a variant of another pedal circuit there would be nothing out there but Dist+, Rangemasters, and Fuzz Faces. Everything, and I do mean everything, is based on some very very very basic designs.

And the BMP.

They're almost identical - if I remember correctly, the only change is upping the 2.2M input resistor on the MOSFET.

There's one on the back end as the switchable boost.

And the BMP.
BMP is just three cascaded amplifier stages. It's basically three tweaked Rangemaster circuits in series. The only "new" think about it is the tone circuit, but I'm sure some amp maker did the same thing before the BMP. So that I would put under the "Rangemaster-derived" basket.

Thanks. I'll have to compare this to my "Boots" pedal schem.
