Even if they messed with the colour too much I think that's still going to be nasty in person.

If the target of that target-burst was to be hideous as fuck, that's definitely a bulls-eye for Fender.

Seems a bit early for Target-burst, and I wonder if that's Butterscotch or summit sprayer over with Target-burst. Could you imagine being a salesman trying to sell that to a customer, "Man it's a beautiful guitar *cough*."

It's a faux-burst - when they were building them out of rubbish wood they used to paint them yellow and then do a sunburst over the top of it. There's more info on Jim Shine's site:

http://www.jimshine.com/jaguar/fenderjaguarhistory.htm

but this is a particularly fugly example.

CBS didn't hire the right people. There's a GREAT picture of a bunch of swingin' 60's chicks with beehive hairdos punching clay dots into fingerboards, which looks like quite a precarious job with those huge fuckin' fingernails.

Uh-oh, now I've done it.

It was a black and white picture and I had pinkeye and had been up for 4 days and was being blown by a starving, forgotten and desperate Trent Reznor at the time. I remembered what they were doing in the picture, at least. I always mistakenly think of that picture when people talk about how inexperienced the people who built the early Fender solid-state amps were.
