i need some pick up advice for my jagmaster

my jagmaster will be here next week
it is a new one
everyone seems to think the pup's will need to be changed
can you suggest a great sounding pick up replacement for it?

Check out guitarfetish.com though, they have LOADS of sick pups for really affordable prices.

There's millions of places, tho, and real boutique places, also...

I have GFS Dream 180s in mine. The stock pickups are fine, but I wanted to use something a little hotter. Keep in mind that if you use a covered pickup you'll need to route the holes in the pickguard a touch.

Figure out what it's lacking and what you like when you get it. If you buy parts like PUPs without knowing exactly what you want, you've reduced it to luck.

It's got Duncan Designed PUPs stock, which are actually quite good quality-wise:

The bridge will be a JB, which is a somewhat bright, midrangy, high-output affair designed for distorting tube amps. Based on the one I had in my 335 for a while, you probably won't be able to get any sort of reasonable clean tone with it. Depending on your taste, the distortion might also be too midrangy and honky sounding. It's very... 1970s. Alnico V magnet, 14k ohms.

The neck is a Jazz model - dark and cleaner sounding. It's pretty good overall, but it might sound muffled depending on yr amp. Alnico V magnet, 8k-ish ohms.

If you google a bit, you can find out what part of the sound each parameter of the pickup controls. Alnico v. Ceramic magnets, number of windings (ohms), etc. Then look for a pickup with those specs - GFS being a great place to start.
The key is to decide how you want the new pickup to be different - more or less output, brighter, more "scooped", whatever - and then put that into technical terms. Don't trust the tone descriptions on the website - they're usually way off-base.
What set is best for you depends or yr style, taste, amp, effects, etc.

I'm pretty sure you can order them. For a while I know that Guitar Center at least was selling them.

I dunno if you're gonna wanna change them, I like the pickups on the jagmaster alot.

The bridge pickup is really kinda twangy, and distorts real well.

The neck pickup is alot smoother of a sound, very nice for soft songs.

only think I really don't like that much about the pickups is that with distortion the neck pickup seems kinda chunky, it doesn't play as smooth as the bridge one, but I think all neck pickups are like that?

My friend was telling me that I should look into getting the Seymour Duncan JB, and other Seymour Duncan pickups. He said it'll be a very similar sound, except better quality...He was also telling me that I may like the Dizmario in the neck, and the 2 humbcukers cobain used on his jag, dunno if I'll do it, I really like my Jagmaster at the moment.

Anyone try any of these pickup combinations?

Also, I was thinking of getting 500k pots, instead of 250k, this will just give me better options on sound, correct?

I reckon new pickups is all a bit placebo anyway. Anyone who thinks that the pickups on their new guitar that they haven't heard yet are bad is probably going to be the same person who's going to think that the most expensive pickups on the market sound the best because that's what everyone says about them.

To be "Teh Kurtdz" you need Butch Vig, Double tracked and heavily EQ'd guitars & heroin.

If you listen to "...Wishkah" you can hear how wank his guitar sound was live. Just planky cleans and DS-1 horribleness. I've never understood why people would want to get close to that.

its cheap and easy to attain.
i have heard a couple live shows where his guitar sound was rather.... chunky/fat, warmer than normal and it seemed that it was when he was using his jaguar in the early 90's

i am not the guy who will just buy expensive because etc.....
its just i researched the jagmaster pretty hard and a recurring theme was pickup replacement
trust me if it sounds nasty and sweet---- i will not make a change
but, don't rag on me for getting opinions and being prepared
i will stop now before i say what i really want to say..................................................
