if i want to change positions of the strap buttons and use those nice shiny straplocks, do you have to drill first or can you just screwdriver the bastards into their new position? yep im new to this and all things DIY.

What locks did you have on your guitars, Hurb? Dunlop ones?

Any recommendations/links? I imagine you have to take off and replace the current strap buttons?
I'd recommend Scahllers personally, although having said that, I only have them on one guitar as I got given a pair. The rest of my guitars use the red rubber washer thing off a Grolsch bottle. This is practical for me a) as they come off easily (but not so easily they fall off when playing) and b) I drink a shit load of Grolsch.

chorlton if you're putting any screws in wood for the first time you gotta drill first to stop splitting.

I hat the metal type, in fact i have some Schallers somewhere- 2 x sets of. I use them plastic discs as they are descreet and dont interfere with teh vintage mojo. Imagine the '64 Jag with great fuck off schaller straplocks on it

I've got those Dunlops that Euan/Ninja Mike posted on nearly all of our 'tars. The screw is slightly larger than stock and a is a little tight to fit, but I've yet to have any issues. Non-lock-equipped straps stay on better with them, indeed.

Strange little irk for me, though, how the old ones I had (as Hurb introduced) are a "pull-to-release" system, whereas the "push to release" style of the Dunlops feels easier to loosen up and are a preferred deal for me.

These arrived today and I've very impressed. the mechanism is snappy and the installation looks very simple. I shall be sorting these out tonight maybe after rehearsal.

I got Schallers like Hurb recommended. Except they're called BOSTON STRAPLOCKS.

Wow this is like the Crusades all over again. IN thousands of years Chris Martin will write a terrible song about this.
