My mustang has robroes! (pics inside)

I'll get straight to some pickguard shots and a tort comparison with the hurb/stewart duo.

here's some slightly more accurate representations of the duo scratchplate colour. it's difficult to capture exactly though.

And a couple of the duo from doogfest 1 that make it look a litle darker

It looks fairly similar, less of the light patches and more of the dark but the actual red colour is pretty close.







There are some small holes in the fretboard, 2 in the first fret and one in the 19th. I still love the grain on the fretboard.


The inside of the bridge cover is pitted quite badly, one side of the top has some slight pitting but overall the metal hardware is in great condition.


These little bastards don't hold tune as well as they should. I'm going to eplace them for some white tipped ones eventually. I think the ones on their now are Jap RI.


I tried to capture some of the finish imperfections. On a white body it's hard to photograph but easy to see. I might refinish it at some point. I'll almost definitely be keeping the tort pickguard, so daphne blue is the obvious choice.


I think I should probably age the robroe covers at some point, but I'll probably what until I refinish it to do that. The clean white of the body and coveres clash with the aged neck dots a bit, but it's a small thing really.

It looks the dog bollocks as it is now. That colour scheme is far superior. I'm calling an end to Blue and Tort. It was never that hot and it's so played out now. NO MORE.

It looks perfect as is.

one of my friends suggested i refinish the duo, but for all the hassle it's not worth it. you might find you get used to the dents and imperfections after a while, liking them even!

the covers make all the difference. are you happy with how it's playing in general?

The blue comment was just to rile you up. i've never really liked blue and tort.

I'd most likely go for a better version of the white it is now, or an aged white (probably done by spraying a slightly off white and then some relicing of some sort, I'm not sure I'd liek it knowing it wasn't the real thing). I'm a little tempted by black but it would lose vintage mojo arrows if I did.



I'd be tempted to go for blue if I switched to... well basically exactly as that middle one there. I should easily be able to sell the pg I have now and buy another with the proceeds. I'm definitely in the early stages of deciding and almost anything is an option (no sunburst or antigua).

I personally think you should stay with the current look of white/tort. Overhauling to be a Daphne/Pearl seems a bit unecessary, as pretty as it is.

i'm in the process of refinishing my musicmaster at the moment, i've got an oly white nitro with a tinted clearcoat, so once that's done i'll post pics, it might help you decide.

I've got nothing but love for robroe covers. They make almost everything look better.

The tuning slips out if I go crazy go nuts with the trem, but on the whle it plays well. The 1th fret on the high e and b strings can fret out a little but it's not visually any lower than the ones near it. The frets have been levelled but it looks like it wasn't that recently. It's far from needing a refert but it might benefit from a crown or stoning or whatever they call it. It's quite a minor thing though, the action is decent enough and in the same sort of area that most Fenders tend to be without quite a lot of care and attention in a setup (ie Frans jag he sold to Zaphod). A shim sorted out the action fairly well and apart from the tuning slipping a little it's all good.

I think what I'll probably do is paint my robert custom when I get it, then once that's done and assembled paint the mustang. It'll be quite a while before all that happens because it'll be cold weather when I get the custom and not ideal painting conditions so I'll have to leave it longer between coats and give it longer to cure.

I like it a lot how it is. I plan on painting the robert custom an off white/pale silver colour so blue would contrast that a bit more and keep away the guitar buying urge a little better. I'm certainly not buying anything else for a good while (with the possible exception of a bass).

How easily available are white F tuners? Is it a vintage only type of deal? I haven't looked into it at all but the lack of tuning stability is getting on my tits a bit. It's first up on the mod list. Thinking about it, other than the pots, strap button and trem arm (and the robroe covers), I think the tuners could be the only non vintage item. I don't mind spending a bit to get some but I have a feeling vintage + F logo = big £££

Yea, I bought 6 of em (plus bushings & screws) for like 100 bucks, and I was lucky, cause I've seen em go for like 30 a piece, and an extra 15 for the bushing.

The ones on my stang stay in tune nicer than the tuners on my Les Paul... But, the ones I'd be selling you, may not, I'd definitely check before I sold em to you.

New F tuners with white buttons are hard to find, too, you may just want to buy some new tuners and put white buttons on em.

It was a project by ex-member johnnie spring. he was at doogfest1 for about half an hour. Here's the only other pic I have of it. There have been plenty of pics of it in the past so maybe someone has some. I'm fairly sure at some point it had a TOM and string-thru furrle setup.

They sell white buttons as a seperate item but they're $23. It seems like it'll be cheapest to get a set of good ones that come with the buttons stock.
