Camo Finish

Post by Fran »

I'm wondering the easiest way to do this. I'm thinking to actually stick camo paper onto the guitar then lacquer over it.
Anyone got any suggestions?

You could go for a base coat of one of the colours., then use large stencils to create the shapes you want to spray the other colours with. You'd probably have to make two body sized stencils to do 3 colour camo, and then use the same stencils for the back.

If it's a simple, quite large three colour pattern, you could spray a base coat. Then get two large identical sheets of camo pattern. Using a craft knife, cut out all the shapes of one colour on one sheet, and then all the shapes of another colour on the other. When finish one has dried, use sheet one as a template and add finish 2. When this is dried, line up the pattern with sheet 2 and spray on finish 3. Then just clearcoat. I suppose the only difficult bit would be getting a load of camo pattern, but you could always design your own. The best would be a repeating pattern, so you don't have to worry about not having it big enough to cover the whole thing. Would probably be difficult for edges too.

Thanks guys. I'd considered this then thought about using a quality sheet. If companies use printed flame maple sheets then why not use printed camo innit.

Out of interest, what is this project for?

I suppose you could do it like they do with cars and those wrapping sheets, where you get this special type of plastic that you heat up to get it to stretch around the contours and edges. If that's what you're talking about anyway, I'll shut up.

I'm thinking of refinishing the Stagemaster or even the BC Rich.
Although i'm not thinking of digital camo i think the Jeff Hanneman ESP looks awesome...

SAVE YOURSELF!

I think the only appealing camo is the digital, because we are now in the age of pixels. I also would use non-trad colors. Then it's at least a little cheeky.
