Crate V Series BLOWOUT!

Post by Sloan »

Musiciansfriend has the Crate V Series on sale. Low prices if you need an all tube amp y'all.
I played one of the older 30-or so watt V-Series amps a long time ago and it was really good.

The distortion is vintage tube sound that others are calling "muddy". I'm old and that's the way they sounded in the 60's. That's when fuzz boxes started.
hahah. GOLD. GOLD I SAY.

I looked at the V18 for a long time. They are good amps - a total no-brainer for the money at this point. They seem to handle Strat neck pickups especially well.

Please post your opinions on the amp dude!
I'm really interested in these since I don't really have a small combo amp right now.

my v50 1x12 combo arrived last night! WOOO HOOO! is all i can say. my first impressions (it was my son's 2nd b-day so I only got about five minutes to fire it up and make sure it was good after shipping and whatnots):

-LOUD as a motherfucker.

-boost=me no likey. it just seems to muddy everything up...may have to play with it. but if it doesn't work i don't give a fuck because i have a dwarfcraft plane ticket for boostage action.

-cleans=very nice. very warm. tube clean warmth FTW

-dirty=pretty good. like i said, i got five minutes with it so i can't really say i hate or love it...but it was plenty ballsy i know that.

-reverb=eff that shit...unless i'm going to be playing some really freaky weird shit that requires verb, i'll probably just unplug the fucking reverb tank they have built in...there doesn't seem to be a LOT of room to play with it...it's either barely present or it's fucking DRENCHED in cavernous reverb...but like i said, i want to play with it some more and see.

-prescence=definitely adds more mid-range bite...don't know that i'll have it engaged though.

i'll know more later tonight (and yes, I will make a demo in the next week or so), but i MAY end up swapping out the tubes for JJs...not sure. i don't have the money to do that for a few weeks anyway. i'm pretty certain i'll be replacing the speaker for something more sexxy-assed. but out of the box and just gettting five minutes with it leaves me with the impression that it's built really well, looks sexy as a motherfucker and is a GREAT all tube amp for 200 bucks!
