Try spraying contact cleaner on the pot and it's connections, if that doesn't clear it up check the wiring. Some good photos could lead to a fellow shortscaler diagnosing the problem and pointing towards a fix, if nothing else.
They generally use pretty Mickey Mouse components in squiers, (not to knock 'em, but they are the cheap stuff), so I imagine it's a loose connection as Duo suggested. Remember, it's a telecaster, so no matter what the problem is it can be fixed in a minute or two. I wouldn't go through the warranty for wiring or even a faulty pot, too much hassle.
One thought: is the tone control itself properly affixed to the control plate with the nut and washer? If it came loose, you could have twisted it past it's range and broken a wire without realising.

cowys right, the new u.s. fender warranties are pretty badass.
if anything ANYTHING goes wrong, they will fix it or give you a new guitar.
when i had my av jag EVERYTHING was covered on it except the finish(nitro) and the strings(duh)
but as far as a stripped screw, bad pot, twisted neck, bad frets etc, they will do whatever to make it right.
thats the beauty of american fenders.
