A similar site covering Canada would clear up your problem in a few minutes. Here are a couple I found that might be good enough to get your info from.

Consumers' Association of Canada
Consumer rights for Ontario (not sure how relevant that is)
● the right to choice
● the right to be informed
● the right to safety
● the right to be heard
● the right to redress
● the right to consumer education
● the right to participate in marketplace decision making
● the right to have access to basic services
● the right to a sustainable enviroment

uhhhh...i don't seen anything that says "the right to get a refund"...or anything along those lines

Oh well, the only really big problem I have with spending like 50$ for everything that needs to be done to the tubes is it's coming out of my "I wanna buy a mustang" fund. :(

thanks anyways guys

WARNING! LONG "I LOVE MY NEW AMP SO I'M GOING TO EXPOUND ON ITS VIRTUES NOW" POST AHEAD:

I played the fuck out of my V50 last night and I love it to death. Funnily enough, it made me fall in love with my Strat again. For whatever reason, how it comes straight from Crate sounds really great with some Texas Special-type single coils. I got a pretty decent sound for my DuoJet as well. The tele sounded nice and twangy...but frankly my Strat blew the tele out of the water. I didn't plug in the Ibanez, but I can do that tonight.

I think I'm going to replace the speaker for sure. I want to see if it gets me a little more response to put a tits-ass celestion or something in there...although I also fully intend to see what it sounds like when I run it into my ampeg 4x10 bass cab. Why not? The impedence matches, so I figure I'll give that a whirl.

The tubes that come stock are okay. They're not great...but for 200 bucks, what the fuck do you want? I want them to break up a little more brittle-like and I want to see if I put some JJs in if it gives me a little more tastiness to the OD/distortion. I also decided the presence button is a good thing for me on this amp. The extra midrange definitely helps.

As I said before the built-in boost and reverb are pretty much useless to my ears. But I finally got to plug in my Dwarfcraft Plane ticket and it fucking RULES! Aen-that's a GREAT FUCKING PEDAL dude. I really love this amp so far. Out of the box it's not PERFECT...but jesus what do you want for 200 bucks?! the first thing i'm going to replace are the tubes obviously...i've always loved how jason's JJs sounded in his marshall...so me wants a pair for meself.

Presence is normally high sparkley treble, as in above the treble control, but it's ok, you're a bassist, so as such it probably all seems like Midrange to your cloth ears.

I had no problem with the sound I just am pissed that the tubes already blew...

and yeah you're right about the texas special pickups + crate = sexy sound I tried the Fender Roadhouse Strat out with the V-50 and it sounded really good.

per the manual on the amp the presence button actually kicks in more midrange. i'll see if i can get the PDF to show ya, you jackball!

Well done Crate with a complete lack of understanding of Amplifier Nomenclature then.

http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~gmarts/ampbasic.htm

"Valve power amplifiers often provide an additional presence control (which reduces negative feedback in the power amplifier section) to provide a small amount of boost at frequencies above the treble control."

so i checked the manual, and you're proabably right mike. to my ears it sounds like high mids...but according to the vague-assed manual description it "adjusts the overall brightness and punch of the output signal" and that definitely sounds like highs...they need to just say "highs." anywhore-i like it pressed.

can someone explain to me how the whole biasing thing works?

people on UG told me you bias the amp..not the tubes?

they said (at the store) my amp was biased, so does that mean I have to bias it everytime i buy new tubes? or since it came biased do I never need to do it again?

It won't be 'the right to get a refund' but it will be somewhere that the goods are to last a reasonable amount of time. I would be incredibly surprised if you're not covered. In the UK it's the responsibility if the trader to deal with your problem if your item is faulty, but for years they've been saying you need to contact the manufacturer directly. The UK government has recently started trying to increase awareness of consumer law with that site I linked to earlier. I couldn't find specifics on the Canadian law but you'll almost certainly be covered and you shouldn't let the shop tell you there isn't a guarantee on it because it's Crate.

I don't mean to butt in, I might have missed this, but has the guy actually contacted the shop and said "Hey, I bought this just a couple days ago and the tube went out after just 2 days"? Perhaps they'll be happy to sort it out?

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but when I buy an amp for so cheap I expect that the tubes they used aren't all that great, so if they blow early, I forgive and buy new, better tubes. Now if said newer, better tubies blow prematurely, then I get pissedz0rz.
