ever run out of GAS

Post by Skip »

i have been going nuts lately and i finally am calming down

have you ever just ran out of gas?

i have nothing else i really need
i think i should pull back and focus on my playing
recent purchases:
jazzmaster, jagmaster, sloans jagmaster, plane ticket, shiva, epi valve junior, lots of pedals, crate v50,tascam porta 02,new mics and cables,eh germanium od, and little odds and ends

damn that is a scary list, but get this yesterday i caught myself on line looking for shit to buy--- i caught myself what an idiot
i need to focus on my playing for a while-- looking for gear eats up sooo much time
anybody out there want to post a recent purchase list? anybody feel like i do?

i guess the first step is admitting you have a problem! we need a gearaholic meeting on thurs nights!
I would have given up already if it wasn't for the impending revolution!

I have periods where all my focus is in playing or building then the GAS returns. Next year will be different, its going to be a new year resolution. Searching for the guitar with the holy tone has gone on for too long and because of my ecclectic taste i dont think that guitar exists anyway.
More focus needs to go on writing and playing, it will also leave spare money for holidays and stuff.

This year I've purchased:

Mickie's tele body which i then paired with a neck to make my first tele
Dogma Hollows Ibanez SZ w/ Duncan 57s for ultimate humbucking awesomeness
Gretsch Pro Jet
Vox AD30VT which I sold and and then bought
Crate V50 1x12 combo
Dwarfcraft Plane Ticket

I think I'm done for awhile...next on my hit list: Acoustic Electric guitar for open mic nights at the irish bar down the street, and then a semi-hollow guitar. And a pedal board, which may be purchased sooner than later.

This year I've purchased 3 guitars, 7 pedals, 2 amps, 1 cab, a 4 track, a powerstation and a mandolin.

Time to sell some stuff I think.

I've actually sold all my guitars but the Artcore and GOTH SG.
Sold all my pedals except fender tuner and Boss FZ-2 Fuzz.
Sold all amps except Ampeg VL-1002

but i did use my selling money to upgrade my speakers and get a Laney.

i made a pact with myself a long time ago that i would not use music gear money for anything but music gear, unless it's an absolute dire emergency. so far it's worked and i've been able to slowly, but surely upgrade my stuff.

Never, this year i've bought:
Fender hot rod deluxe;
whammy 4;
proco rat;
Verbzilla;
and i'm buying a tremolo next week. I still want to buy a better delay this year, probably the dd20. I could think of at least 10 pieces of gear i would buy if i had the money...
My girlfriend says i have a disease, i blame it on the internet.

Unbelievably i've bought about 17 guitars, 2 amps, 6 pedals, bodys, necks and parts. Some where 'buy to sell' ventures though admittedly.

This year:
Vox AD15
Fender Princeton Chorus
Fender Champ 12

Silvertone 1448
Dano U1 reissue
Dano U1 (1957)

Fuzz Face, EA Trem, Dano CC Trem, Target Wah that I modded to fuck.

So that looks like $2000 worth of stuff - although most of that was trade and I've got about $900 on my credit card.

And I had a red strat for about a day that sounded shit with my amps (but amazing in the store).

I'm not looking at any guitars in the immediate future - maybe a Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin at some point. I have a firm interest in building a tweed Bassman clone, but that will have to wait until I get the '57 U1 paid off. For right now, I'm going to be building pedals to sell here or on eBay.

I got into that game, till i got a bank statement saying i was over a grand into my overdraft. Its esily done, all you need is some GAS, a week off work with flu and a couple of big bills land. Before you know it your up shit creek trying to sell 6 guitars on eVilbay :lol:
Only today i was sat looking at some of my collection thinking "somethings gotta go"! but i like them all, so it looks like the MicroKorg keyboard could go next. I have'nt found the time to put it to good use.

I got through phases. Before I bought the Mustang I had bought nothing in over a year, since the Baja Telecaster.

I generally sell before I buy, I don't, never have and never will have a massive collection.

In the past year...

Bandmaster reverb,
Musima Elgita,
Musima Elektra (sold)
Dano 12-string orf Aen
Vista musicmaster orf Sub
Hagstrom Scandi
Custom Shop heavy relic Strat (sold)

I sold my Tiny Terror, a reissue Hagstrom F300, an Epi SG.

A few pedals, coming and going.

All-in-all not a very busy year. Not like when I went nuts for Hagstrom guitars a few years ago.

oh the gas is horrible!
glad that i don't have that much money... oh, wait...

as it goes for me, i'm on lookout for the stuffs, but not really often do buy them.. like, every few months i get some new pedal or other audio-musical stuffz. don't have big warehouse, trying to have useless stuff sold :D cause it's a bit tight when it comes to cash in here, post-commie-land ^_^ comparing myself to ya guys.. - i'm just homeless broke! i have only two guitars atm :(

how much did you pay for your vikings tim, if you don't mind me asking? i quite fancy one but they seem to fluctuate in price a fair bit from say, £400 to £750.
