BUT- the interesting bit isn't really the guitar. if you go into the seller's webshop thing it says this:
Welcome to Viva Japan Store. You want it! We can get it! Our resources can get your 'Made in or Crafted in Japan' Instrument. Please email us with your specifics of what you have a Yen for. Our Motto: Your Yen at Viva Japan Store's best Yen. 100% Japanese quality guaranteed
that looks to me as if they'll export a guitar of your choice from japan. uk shipping is £40, which could be worse. so maybe the fancy dan colours and models aren't so unattainable after all...
If you are in the Market for a different Japanese 'Made in' or 'Crafted in' Japan Guitar, give us an email. We can find almost any kind of Japanese made guitar or any other instrument from Japan.
and they ship pretty much worldwide by the looks of things.
i don't trust that guitar listing.
1. the thing isn't strung right, no big deal
2. the crafted in japan looks funky to me.
3. it has the custom contour decal, but the body is slab.
kinda weird.
Yeah, there's something terribly wrong there for sure.
The bad string job and the non-contour body seems to indicate a neck replacement
I have, however come across that style "CIJ" decal on recent production models.

'65 RI also have the decal and are also slab
this one is most likely a some kind of 65 RI, taking into account incorrectly installed strings the seller has to be mustang noob

it has an MG66 stamp on it somewhere i think.
the guitar's obviously second hand and not particularly nice anyway, it was more the "we'll ship you the guitar of your choice" thing that caught my eye.

i saw recently a cherry red competition mustang with matching headstock, and somewhere in description it said that you can order any color from their shop. it also was a japanese seller. can't find the item anymore though...
I think I saw the MG66 model somewhere else as well. Fender Japan has been doing some interesting stuff recently but we just don't here about it. I'm sure I saw a Shadstang reissue.

Oh man, competition orange here I come.

it's not a '65 RI. The decal is missing the patent numbers. The pickguard gap is missing.
It's a different Japanese only RI as Rob has found out. Funny that in '65 guitar you get aged Pearl and a shrunken pickguard whereas guitars from '66 look pristine today!
