What should I get first?
Alright....so in the coming months I wanna get all of this stuff.
Guitar :
Fender Mustang (790$ taxes included)
Effects :
EHX Small Clone (80$ taxes included)
BOSS DS-2 (50$ used)
maybe an OD pedal (SD-1?) & a reverb pedal (EHX holy grail?)?
I also wanna get a PA system which is a little under 400$...or if my speakers that my mom is giving me are compatible with a PA system I will just get a mixer?
I get paid on friday, and I wanna know in which order should I get all this stuff?
If it matters I usually make 300-350$ a paycheck + an additional 20-30$ a week in tips

I've been in that situation before - in that case go for the PA but I'd pass up on the DS-2 alltogether.ultraviolence wrote:I really wanna get it before everythign else....but I kinda feel that the PA is more importantMaMo wrote:MUSTANG!

all the demos of the ds-2 I've seen sound great....I've yet to try it out, but in a week or so I'm gonna try that out and the MXR M-104 distortion... I'm trying to get some tones like Mark Arm, Kurt Cobain, and Steve Turner...maybe some greg ginn like tones too....but i really have no clue what he used.MaMo wrote:I've been in that situation before - in that case go for the PA but I'd pass up on the DS-2 alltogether.ultraviolence wrote:I really wanna get it before everythign else....but I kinda feel that the PA is more importantMaMo wrote:MUSTANG!

But yeah, Mustang first. Then check Craigslist for PA stuff.
that's not the nano one..is it?
I'm still trying to experiment in tone...the EHX big muff is something I've always wanted to try out, but always forgot about it.... Cobain used a DS-1& DS-2, Arm & Turner used a Big Muff...and the MXR distortion....and fuck if I know what Ginn used... I like what I get from 2 of 3 of my current distortion pedals (dod grunge paid 5$ for it 3 years ago, and I still feel like I got ripped

are you sure about the mustang though...? Wouldn't the PA be more of a necessity? if the speakers i have can be connected to a mixer I'll easily be able to get everything by the end of october.
I guess the tone I want is pretty much Cobains distortion used for Bleach... Mark Arm & Steve Turners tone in Superfuzz Bigmuff...(real brain teaser to guess what they used for that album)... and Greg Ginns distortion for songs like No Values, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Nothing To Lose, White minority, etc...
Any other pedals I should try out besides the Big Muff (USA..right?), MXR, and DS-2?

those people you mentioned didn't just use those pedals. they used different pedals to get different sounds on different songs. so if i were you, i'd go into a shop and ask to try all the distortion pedals they have and pick something that sounds good to you and is most versatile (easier said than done i know, if you're on a budget). if you're trying to ape the sound of your favourite guitarists you'll probably fail. find something you like playing through first.ultraviolence wrote:Any other pedals I should try out besides the Big Muff (USA..right?), MXR, and DS-2?
there's lots of opinions here-

if i were you i'd get something that was capable of covering a few bases. if you expect to plug into a DS2 and suddenly sound like kurt cobain you'll be a bit disappointed, same goes for mudhoney/muff or who/whatever. plus, if you've already got a DS1, there's no point in buying a DS2! it's a waste of money.
if you think more in terms of combinations of good quality overdrives, distortions and fuzzes, and using them together you'll get further a lot faster.
I know everyone will brush this off as nonsense but, humbuckers (or single coils in a hum canceling combo) + ds1 or 2 does have a really cool sound, in my opinion, for lead stuff. not wanky lead stuff but kurdts style lead stuff. That band Winters that someone uploaded on the pub a while ago have that sound.

damn...I was hoping you people would try and convince me to not get the mustang...cause i feel like I'm gonna get it when I should get the PA instead.TideBleach wrote:mustang. i love mine it rocks like no other and plays so easily.
i just bought a crate v-50 last week....it's not the best but I like it, and it's definitely good enough for what I needSloan wrote:DON'T BUY PEDALS - BUY AWESOME AMPLIFIER INSTEAD.
