worth a look for one reason in particular...

i didn't bother to check prices but im guessing that the 66 would cost a little less and have build quality more like the 69.
the QC on the mg65 is more akin to what fender is doing with the american series than that of the CIJ 69' RI, CIJ compstang RI, and the MIJ 90's era Classic Series mustangs.
looks like the mg66 is a hybrid of options between the 65 and the 69.
its got white tuners like the 65 but as mike said a new unaged pickguard like the 69. its slab like the 65 but the decal is modern,
other differences between the two are saddle size/spacing, trem plate stamping, pickups, wiring, and shielding. the 65 has higher quality everything compared to the other 3 i mentioned above

i imagine you'd just email them and say "i want this" and they'd get back to you with a price. presumably they'd add a wedge on top for their trouble, i dunno how cost effective it'd be, possibly not very! but then, if there was a specific model you wanted it might be the only chance you'd have of getting it.Mike wrote:Indeed it's a cool premise.
I wonder how it works. Do they auction you it at a BIN if you choose something?
ok, not really on topic, but according to what you've said.. is it better to get a CIJ 65RI than CIJ 69RI? and, is it better to get CIJ 65RI or CIJ/MIJ/MIA '70-something vintage? and, those 65RI that are selling in musiciansfriend/etc - are they CIJ or what? i'm really confused now, i seek guidance...robroe wrote:i didn't bother to check prices but im guessing that the 66 would cost a little less and have build quality more like the 69.

as far as i'm aware 65RIs are slightly better quality than 69RIs in terms of materials. a new CIJ guitar is going to be more standardised in terms of quality across the board. a vintage guitar you don't really know what you're getting until you play it, it could be great or it could be a lemon, it's more pot luck if you're buying from ebay. the ones in musician's friend will be CIJ.blacktaxi wrote:ok, not really on topic, but according to what you've said.. is it better to get a CIJ 65RI than CIJ 69RI? and, is it better to get CIJ 65RI or CIJ/MIJ/MIA '70-something vintage? and, those 65RI that are selling in musiciansfriend/etc - are they CIJ or what? i'm really confused now, i seed guidance...robroe wrote:i didn't bother to check prices but im guessing that the 66 would cost a little less and have build quality more like the 69.
