dude, thats a huge jerk move you just made.
This guy has been working on this for a long time and he's become a nice fixture to the forum.
I don't want to start trouble blah blah blah. Maybe you should reading the forum, before you jump to conclusions.

I don't know what WRHBs even sound like but I know I want them cause they're rare and really fucking expensive!
The Cunife thing got brought up in a thread here a year or so ago. I remember I googled for about 20 minutes and found some supply house selling cunife rods that were about right for PUPs. I don't know what there minimum order was, but it certainly wasn't $20k. Maybe a few hundred, tops.

Oh i meant the stock fender reissues. I didn't really get interested enough in the, uh, modded ones. From what I hear 1meg pots are THE way to go on them. I like the spank of single coils, but am interested in the superbeef a humbucker can provide.sp3k wrote:Me to. It sounds great. I've read that switching to 1 meg pots is a good mod to do, is that easy to do? requires good soldring skills?aen wrote:I like the repros just fine.

I did the 1meg switch on my Telecaster Deluxe before I sold it to NickD, I think it made all the difference.aen wrote:Oh i meant the stock fender reissues. Then fullerpast said
Then I saidPlease, lets not make an issue out of this in a FS ad. Shortscale has some good points and dug has responded. Let's just leave it alone now and let potential buyers decide...dude, thats a huge jerk move you just made.
Feel free to PM each other with questions or comments.
Then same dude replied back and apoligiesedI've actually read both threads(here and the original tele forum thread) guy starts off by saying he has a source for CunNiFeI have found a source for CuNiFe magnet
And now the product is anico magnets...which is fine. whatever. but don't charge top spec for something that isn't period correct. Its mojo rubbish. However I am not here to argue back and forth. I am looking out for others, not myself(I'm a single coil man you see!)
I hope that people are not taken in by this.
But if they are.. I will still sleep soundly knowing I at least chimed in.
agreed fullerpast, cheers.
I have said my peace.
I made the jerk move. I had no sleep and things looked differently this morning lol.

Fair enough, I'm glad you didn't get in trouble.
I read through the Tele forum thread and am in two minds.
a) His reluctance to post sounds and stuff (sounds different on Laptops, wtf?) gets my goat
b) saying he's not out to make money then charging nuts bucks, BUT he seems like he might be a sort of together kind of guy.
I dunno. He posts LOL a lot which always makes me annoyed.

I want to tell him that licking your elbow CAN'T BE DONE so he spends the next few weeks sat in his bedroom trying to dislocate his shoulder instead of being a cunt on the internet.

Brilliant. You're on stellar form these days.James wrote:I want to tell him that licking your elbow CAN'T BE DONE so he spends the next few weeks sat in his bedroom trying to dislocate his shoulder instead of being a cunt on the internet.
I hated that too, "I just like solving problems that people say can't be solved". You mean half-arsing stuf and just saying "THEY SOUND THE SAME" without ANY FUCKING EVIDENCE.
There is no A/B test that you would need to have the slightest amount of credibility in his statements.
You need to A/B the following to "prove" his assertion.
1. MIM RI pickup stock
2. MIM RI pickup with 1meg pots
3. CIJ RI pickup stock
4. CIJ RI pickup with 1 meg pots
5. Original pickup stock
6 New pickup stock
7. New pickup with 1 meg pots
Same guitar, same amp, same settings.
I saw that post, and I, too, wondered why anybody would pay this guy's prices when the real things cost about the same.
He's probably not doing anything to the pickup except chipping off some chrome from the edges to make it look like its been worked on. I'm sure he's counting on the fact that by the time he mails you back your pickup, you'll have forgotten what it sounds like and will sound new to your ears again.

the guy responded.
and someone else jumped on his side
Wow. This is bad. I have nothing to prove here and simply decided to make 30 pickups because on an intense demand and several requests by those following this project here and on other forums. I am not a pickup manufacturer or manufacturer of any kind for that matter. It's a real shame when people come forth like this and slander someone elses efforts. In all honesty, I'm not even all that thrilled about doing these pickups. After 6 months of winding, testing and re-building I will be splitting a paltry profit with someone else (if they all sell) and then spend another 2 months filling orders. Oh, then there are the material costs. The bobbins are machined one at a time, the magnets are hand cut and ground, these are hand wound, one at a time, and then there is the logistics of taking and filling orders. I also have to buy several of the donor pickups for those who do not have their own to send. And if I don't sell these, I'm out all the money for the materials. In my opinion, this is a fairly generous offer.
If you read the thread, you would know that the reason CuNiFe was abandoned is because of the cost to produce it. There are sources for it but it's obscenely expensive to start a production run of threaded CuNiFe rod and then have it cut and slotted for screws. So I tried experimenting with alnico V magent rod. I discovered that cutting alnico rod to .540 lengths significantly reduced the magnetic field and caused the magnets to affect the coil just like the weaker CuNife magnets. I was then faced witht the problem of flat top magnets, so I ground mine to look like screw heads and at least give an appearance of CuNiFe magnets. But, you would know all this if you had read the threads before running off at the keyboard. If you'd like, I can produce a pickup with Cunife magents for about $2000 ea, but I'd need to make about 600 of them.
Anyone who has followed this project from the beginning knows exactly how it all started and the good vibes among the people who contributed something to it either by loaning an actual pickup for evaluation, e-mailing photos and specs, or just sharing information in general.
It's very easy to cast doubt on this project. You just get angry and type a few things on your computer. But then there are people who actually make an effort in this world to do something decent. That takes effort. That takes action. That is what this whole thing is about.
In the future, I would seriously appreciate being contacted over this type of accusation. I will gladly give you my phone number and discuss any aspects of this project you'd like. I have divulged everything, all specs, in the spirit of learning and capturing a bit of the old glory that is the Wide Range Humbucker and anyone here can do the conversion themselves if they're willing to make the investment as I have. Offering these for sale is just my way of sharing something we might not already have. But I am not a charity organization either. Is it so hard to believe that someone just wants to do something decent?
If anyone would like to contact me directly by phone, please PM me and I'll give you my phone number.

Isn't there a forum rule that prevents questioning someone's prices or motives in the FS section?
If you don't like what someone is charging, just move on.
It is not your responsibility to enlighten everyone. He is making the pickups, and he can charge whatever he wants. If he has trouble selling all 30, the prices might or might not come down.
Price is a function of supply and demand. The supply in this case is 30. The demand is enormous. I don't think he'll have any problems. But in any case, it's none of your business.
