i have a double live record that has a a load of pics (its like 77-87 or something like that)
but anywho.
there is a house part pic where you can see the guitar you speak of.
its a duo with a chrome bucker in the bridge.
and i think actually it might be a music master II

...but...

I own a 65 RI 'Stang.

I've tried out that HORRIBLE (what!?! it's an opinion!) GOLD Squier Duo reissue.

And I've never had the honor of futzing around with a genuine vintage Duosonic.

Question is:

Sound-wise...with AND without overdrive/distortion...

what really IS the difference between a DuoSonic and a Mustang?

Aside from the obvious COSMETIC quirks?

are you speaking in terms of re-issue's or vintage?
and what years of each?
there are like 3 different re-issue duo-sonics, maybe only two actually, but i think there are three.
and there are 3 different re-issue stangs.

and as far as vintage stuff, same sort of deal.
there are a couple differences between a 57 duo compared to a 65 duo(mainly finish options, pickguards, and scale length)
and with stangs there is a difference with colors, body styles, and i have felt a couple with insanely different feeling necks.

I guess my question was too broad. Will have to be more specific in the future.

But generally (and I DO mean GENERALLY) speaking...which is shriller/twangier? The Duo or the Stang?

I know, I know...define "shrill" and "twang" right? Well...I can't. All I know is that between my Strat (sold), my Tele and my Mustang, the Mustang sounds closest to the Beatlesque Rickenbacker sound I've always been after.

Sorry...does that make any sense?

well, you have to factor in scale length, string size and pickup type.
oh and the type of bridge.
and the electronics.
there are a million different factors.

Oh, damn dudes, I played that new duo, it felt like a fucking Katana. it had that awesome "brand new strings/brand new guitar" klannng! Bonars. Sounded just as good plugged in. The neck was bassy enough, but the whole thing had a great metallic edge to it. Dare I say Shellac-y?
