right, phoned him, he said condition-wise it's about a 7 or an 8/10, neck's fine, frets are fine, few nicks and dings and the scratchplate is mildly swollen near the neck pickup, usual kind of thing. i made him an offer lower than what i'd expect to pay, thinking he was up for a haggle... and he went for it!
he's going to confirm it all tomorrow, and i'll hit him with a bank transfer if all is well. i'm not going to get TOO excited in case something fucks up, but fingers crossed it'll be ok.
i feel a wee bit bad snaffling it from under the nose of ebayers, but to be honest, i normally play by the rules, i'm allowed to be naughty once in a while. and he said "make me an offer", so there you go. plus, i'd have been at work when the auction ended, so i'd have needed to stick my bid on first thing then waited anxiously all day hoping i wouldn't be spangled...and i don't want anyone else to be in danger of facing my wrath if something went wrong with a proxy bid, so... anyway, fuck it, i don't need to justify it!! times are hard!

ooh, that'd get me fumin'!Zaphod wrote:Sneaky bastard.
Nah, good on you, nice to undercut once in a while. Justify it to yourself by imagining the highest bidder on the auction was a spoiled kid with some serious krudtz, a chisel in his left hand and a super distortion in the other.
So... How much?
i can't say how much until the deal's gone through (plus i'm hoping he thinks postage is included in the offer price!) but i'll reveal all if and when it's mine...
it won't be a laughable bargain or anything (james!) but not bad considering what i've seen them go for before.
stewart you are defo coming to a shortscale meet up at somepoint with all these sweet guitars.stewart wrote:ooh, that'd get me fumin'!Zaphod wrote:Sneaky bastard.

i could still get ripped off to the tune of X hundred pounds yet... i'll breathe a massive sigh of relief once i've got it in my hands (and i've checked it isn't a fucking lemon).
it all seems above board though, no nigerian bank accounts or anything like that. i think the earliest i'll get it will be friday or saturday, but rest assured i'll post pics and spunky details at the first opportunity.
i'm going to have to dig out some stuff to sell to help cover this, but there's very little i'm willing to part with.. shit!

The dude does Property Refurbishment and gets a lot of cash in hand work so he bought guitars as a way of stashing £ away from the taxman, so hopefully there'll be a way I can screw him right back through that.

Somehow I do not trust anythin' that comes from Denmark Street... 90% of the sales staff on that street are just down right rude and arrogant !!! They've lost a few sales from me in the past... TWATS !!! ...
anyways, sorry to hear about the hassle with the guitar, hope you get it all sorted out soon....![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Be persistent !!

I will be persistant, including a full on story about the whole thing on my blog and the shop blog. I'll be sure to put his business details in there too, that way if anyone googles him there's a good chance that my page will popup and they can find out exactly what he's like.

i don't think he has been refunded- i think the guy had agreed to but hasn't so far. i read it as:James wrote:Don't rush into a slander campaign. He's refunded you the money, and you're certain the guitar is fucked. So even Wunjo need to check it out you'll be fine. Fight the good fight.
i've mentioned this before, but the musicmaster wunjo sold me was a piece of shit... i bought it from their website, and when i phoned up about it i asked the guy the usual questions about condition etc and he didn't mention anything about a massive fucking rout the size of my hand under the scratchplate. serves me right, it was my second guitar and i was a total wet-behind-the-ears n00b and i didn't think i'd have any chance of getting my money back (idiot). i'm fast coming to the conclusion that they don't have much in the way of scruples, is what i'm trying to say...Dinosauria wrote:After being decent and agreeing to refund me as soon as the £ was back in his paypal account from his bank account (he'd already transferred it out) he's now talking some shit about having the guitar sent back to where he bought it to have it checked out.
if you can get your money back and keep the guitar and maybe do something with it that'd be great, but like james said i'd wait until you're absolutely certain the guy's trying to fuck you over before you go steaming in with big boots.
I'm totally gonna give him the chance to put this right but he's starting to dick me around now, he said he was going to refund me a week ago and now he's refused the refund request. Now I get the impression he's stalling for time until my right to escalate the claim expires. He's not returning my calls or leaving any replies to my Paypal messages. He's got until tomorrow and then I'm going to escalate the claim.
As for Wunjo's, aparently they told the guy this was 100% original (apart from the finish) and it has been routed to shit under the pickguard too same as yours ans the shielding is missing too.

Oh and as for slander I forgot to mention that after I told him I would be claiming through Paypal he tried to accuse me of swapping the bodies aroung and trying to rip him off!! It would be quite an impressive feat as he had the body refinished WITH A MATCHING HEADSTOCK so unless I magically got the same paint and aged it in the space of a week he's just full of it.
I hate when people arrange to do one thing and then do another. I feel bad for the guy that Wunjo's ripped him off, but that's no excuse for him to try to do the same thing to me.

At least I had some unexpected extra income when I bought this so it's not all that bad. To be honest it's the way the seller is acting that's annoying me the most. I like to think the best of people and occasionally it bites me on the ass (not often tho). I did ask plenty of questions about the guitar before I bought it, unfortunately the guy either doesn't have a clue or he was lying to try to get rid of it.
It's a shame cos it is a really nice guitar and I probably would have bought it for a lower price as a project if I knew what I was getting into, I just don't like being lied to.

what i don't get is this- wunjo aren't exactly famed for their reasonable prices: the £1500 mustang with a big gouge out of it being a prime example- so i'd reckon the guy's made a loss on it in the first place (unless he got a bulk discount from them? i dunno).
also, he claimed to have had it refinished himself by "a luthier" (the same guy who photographed the neck date). so the guy who refinished it and took the photo neglected to mention that the neck had been snapped off it and there was gouges out of the pickup cavities? smells fishy to me.
