finally got around to restringing the hh jag w/ 11's, and WOW. i didn't even have to touch the action or intonation (which were needing some adjustment before), and they're both pretty much perfect now. i got scoffed at for the .49 on the 6th string for some around here (i use super bullets for economy/durability), but i'm already pleased by the acoustic response and retained comfort of playing this guitar now. can't wait to plug it in!
what i don't understand is why when every shortscale guitar is obviously better suited by 11's, fender still ships them with lighter guages. the 10's were good on this jag, but these 11's are absolutely fantastic.
Bought some to try and haven't been inclined to since I bought them. The Duo-Sonic II is perfect with 11s, the Mustang could maybe do with them seeing as it's a toploading trem based guitar, but I think a string-through shortscale doesn't need them.
I like thicker strings, I don't do string bends and I like wound Gs so they suit me.
I'm probably gonna step up to 12s on everything bar acoustic, I'm going to give the cowbell jazzblaster a proper setup (needs a little truss rod adjustment) soon and I'll probably put 12s on it.
I also use 13s on my ibanez, but that's tuned to B or C most of the time for sludge tonez.
I have been using 11's on my acoustics for a while and recently decided to man up to 13's and damn what a difference that made, I'll never play anything else...as far as electric goes I always use 10-52s or 12-52's with the wound G.
Aye, I've got 10s on my squier strat since the strings haven't been changed in a dogs age, they feel proper flimsy to me.
The worst was the mini guitar, that came with like 7s. I could do 7 fret bends on that thing until I changed them. It sounded like mario jumping or something.
11-50 on everything except the 1448, which gets 12-52. I actually started tuning down a half step cause my hands were getting fucked up from playing 2-4 hours a day. It made jazz stuff a lot easier and I can get more volume when finger picking.
When I learn to do refrets, I'm gonna start working on a RawK guitar with stainless steel frets that will be strung with 9s. I'd like to mod the whole thing around light tension and super low action, just to see how it affects my playing.
I think my Mustang is 11-56 which suites me well. I like a heavier top for sure. Those GHS Booomers have impressed me though. Need to set up my Tele proper for it.
