bubbles_horwitz wrote:i sent him a link to www.planetoftheamps.com which has gut shots of tons of matamps. none of them have tilted transformers.
also, i spoke with the guy who sold it to echoverb and he said the transformers weren't leaning over when he sold it and that it must have been damaged in transit. i don't think i'm quite ready to believe that echoverb knowingly sold me a dud, but he sure doesn't seem willing to take responsibility for the situation.
Ask for a full refund and if he says no start a paypal dispute.

i would try to get 1/4 of the total cost and keep the amp.
shipping it back and eating shipping charges would be a bitch. if you just screw down that transformer and re-tube it, you could flip that shit and come out on top.

that's not the problem - the problem is that you received it in a damaged condition that wasn't specified in the auction listing.
you can file a dispute right now if you wanted to, you have proof.

1/4 of the sale price is about $350.
So, request $400.

a new transformer is gonna cost about $300 anyway. that doesn't even cover labor.

Also the boy is blatently covering his tracks. He knows he is in the wrong and won't win a dispute.

i don't see what his problem is. a case can easily be made that the amp was damaged during shipping. he assures me that he insured it. he could even come out ahead if fedex gives him the full amount it was insured for.

Plus you can tell it's screwed by the pics. Ask for immediate refund and tell him if he refuses you're going straight to paypal. He can't pack an amp properly it's his problem. Don't let him stall any longer.

He now seems to want to rectify the problem. I'm willing to go along with his idea of taking it to a tech because I'd really like for this situation to result in me keeping the amp and not having to foot the bill. If the tech says it's screwed and echoverb refuses to pay the bill or offer a refund, then I'm going straight to paypal. According to the website I have 60 days to file a dispute.

Check everything for time limits. Fedex insurance claims come to mind as the obvious other thing to check.

the amp tech was able to fix the problem. apparently a wire connecting the filter caps to the power tubes had come loose, probably during shipping.
i'm so glad that's all it was.

Are you getting the tech bill paid by the seller?

yeah, the seller already sent me $50 and the bill was only $65. i'm hoping he'll send me the extra $15, but if not, it won't be the end of the world.
