nice collection of pedals at last! Are patch cables a bollox

Right I never used to really care about patch cables and to be honest I still don't in as much as I used to have the odd pedal...... but recently well over the last two years I've got what I think are some really nice pedals and I love them...... But I still use my cheapo patch and guitar cables and what not....

I think I've just brought my last pedal and I'm looking to nail 'em down.... but should I just stick with my cheapo patch cables the were about Â£8 for 8..... and they are brightly coloured.....they are the cheapest I could get at the time.

Is there anyone out ther who recomends a really good patch cable that are good value...... I don't want to be paying Â£20 for one patch cable or whatever they seem somewhat pricey... and I'm sure they are really great and stuff...... but to a certain extent it must be a false economy?.... I don't think for one moment there isn't a happy medium out there, but is there anyone here...partiularly in the UK who has some well built patch cables that didn't cost a bloody fortune.....and sound kinda nice... better than the kinda bargin basement cables I have been using?

I did a search and found that was it James who said he got some rather nice ones of some ebay guy.... I cant remember that was a while back....

I got some of those George Ls that you make yourself. Costs Â£7-8 per cable. Bit expensive. Work pretty good.

Venom adder patch cables are good, I switched them after 4 of my cheap coloured (maplins I assume?) patch cables died.

Cheap too.

Edit: Or venom mamba, I forget which.

I've been looking at George L's a bit but I'm not too sure about making my own cable..... I know it's easy but it sounds a bit gimicky to me.... I can't honestly trust myself to get great quality if I'm the guy making the bastards..... I'll check out what Zaphod's on about and GL's again

I know when I made em a couple wouldn't work straight-off. The caps needed to be screwed-in tighter. They seem a good option if you don't change your board layout much and want to make the most of the space. They're also neater because you can make em exactly the right length for whatever.

The George Ls can breakdown if you move them alot because of the solderless connectors. I'd just get some good quality Neutrik right-angle plugs and some guitar cord and DIY it. Once you learn to strip coaxial cable it's super easy and cheap to make yr own high-quality cords.

I used a George L's guitar cable for 4 years in my band and never had an issue. We practiced every week, and had a show a month.

EASIEST OPTION- AROUND Â£2.50 PER CABLE. DO IT NOW.

Ok that's two votes for these bad boys... but has anyone noticed any tonal impvovements over the little cheapo fuckers or are they just more sturdy they certainly look the nuts.... or is there really not all that much tone to be found or rather lost in a cable. It may sound dumb but if you've never touched the good stuff who knows...

I found this website a while ago. I ordered a power supply adapter off him, and I keep meaning to put in an order for these patch cables. I've not tried them, but I'm sure someone here has. He does a variety of different lengths, and because you can buy them all separately, you can mix and match to get the perfect lengths for your pedalboard layout. There are even some with "Neutrik" jacks that Mike raves about.
