For this job I sacrificed one two of the back speakers in my 87' honda accord. Housing and all. And a blue guitar cable. Haven't tried it on kick but it def picks up some sub frequencies!
And here is why I kept it in the housing the second time....
I'm running it through the DI. And it seems to be working right. Not too noisy or anything. I might modify it later.
I've seen people do it both ways, balanced and unbalanced. Yes, Domokun guards my studio. Its unfortunate that mainstream has caught on to domokun though.
I am going to do a more complex miking for the drums on the new record I'll be working on. So I am upgrading my system to have 16 inputs instead of 8 inputs.
Things I still need before I start tracking
Sub Kick Mic
AKG 414 BXLS (So I'll have two total for room mics or overheads)
Shure SM-7
Aphex 142 converter
Cables and Stuff...
Tested it against my friends diy subkick. I get a really nice deep kick sound. Probably about somewhere in the 50-150 range. My friends was more resonate than mine. I still need to test it against the actual thing though.
